This broken down barn caught my eye near Cascade, Idaho. Any comments about cropping and composition would be helpful. Thanks!

The problem with a Flickr URL, is that every time someone quotes your original post, the photo will also be duplicated.

Okay, now I see the image. It looks like it is following the rule of thirds. Was it taken at sunrise or sunset, I noticed the slight orange in the sky? Cheryl

Early morning with serious fires in the area seem to have cast this weird color on it. Some PP with Topaz filter probably accentuated it.

I enjoy photographing broken down buildings, if possible before they are about to fall. It is sort of fun documenting them before they are gone forever. I like your composition. Cheryl

Thanks - it's aways a question for me how much background and foreground to include.

Does the original post require quoting?

I like it very much and it works for me. One comment I read in a photobook, I think it was Bryan Peterson's on composition, is that the average person looks at a pictures the same way as they read, right to left and if you have your main subject on the left, they stop there and, whereas if you have the main subject on the right, their eyes will travel all the way over, taking in the whole picture. I find don't think of that until I see my photos.

That's interesting - I thought they looked at the lightest values first?

I think you suggested reversing the shot - here's the update and I think you were right. Also, it may be better in bxw.

I had never really thought about it before. But now that I think about it, I believe in your picture I did see the house, but I continued on to the gate. I don't know that that is the answer, but it is worth thinking about and next time you look at a photo, try to look where you look first and last. I liked your picture both ways.
