The first is a scan of an old (obviously) family snapshot. The paper has a texture adding to the challenge of a restoration.

The second is what I have done thus far with Affinity Photo. I would like to retain some of the artifacts of the time period and not sanitize it. Some obvious challenges are the chair and partial person sitting in it. Comments and suggestions welcome.

You did a very nice job of correcting color and contrast! I took it a little further by trying to eliminate the figure at the lower left and, some of the artifacts from the paper or canvas it was printed on. In attempting to sharpen it a little more the artifacts began to reappear so I left it as is. Maybe someone else has a way to sharpen the kids without causing the paper texture to reappear.

Hi George, did you see these topics from last month:

One thing I believe mentioned is sharpening usually just makes things worse, as Sony alluded. What works for fresh digital does not necessarily work for restoration.

Best of luck!

Maybe back it up a tad on the faces?
To me, George's faces look more natural
