Some people use the leaves for greens, the berries are poisonous

ALL of it is poisonous, INCLUDING the leaves!

The leaves have to be prepared a certain way.
If not done properly, could be "bye-bye".

I have this plant in two areas of the farm and can not find anyone to tell me what it is. In Wisconsin so it has to be a hardy variety but can not figure out. Anyone have any ideas?

Elderberry I would say. They grow wild here and can be used for Wines & Brandys I am told. I have no idea if that is true or not. They would certainly make a good stain as their color is quite vivid when squished...hahaha.

Why do so many people jump out there and identify something when they have no idea what it is? If you don't know for sure what it is, why not just remain silent? Definitely Poke Berry.

The young shoots are very edible and delicious. Best when mixed with other greens. Don't eat leaves or berries from the older plants.

It is an elderberry plant (see images-Google). Pokeweed is a ground leafy semi-vegetable that grows in sandy soil up to about 12"-14" high. My grandmother used to pick and par-boil to remove a poisonous element before it could be served at the family table.

Pick your poison:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sambucus

Choose wisely.
(I believe your grandmother, at least, knew what she was doing.)

Pokeweed. The early growth can be eaten. The berries are great ammunition for using the hollow stalks of Joe Pie weeds as blow guns. They stain when they hit to show where they hit. Do not inhale. Personaly I am not fond of the greens but the plant is very photogenic.

Sorry, I don't rely on Wikipedia data! It's from other responses and ideas. I only refer to my grandmother's instructions before the internet!
