I have this plant in two areas of the farm and can not find anyone to tell me what it is. In Wisconsin so it has to be a hardy variety but can not figure out. Anyone have any ideas?
Elderberry? not sure. I used to pick these as a 5 yr. old and stain all my dress pockets.
I thought of Elderbery but the self standing bush like it is confuses the issue. Thanks I can see if it matches anything else.
Yup, it’s a nightshade variety. Was on my folks place when I was a kid. Mom wouldn’t let us touch it.
I, think its elder berry.

Some people use the leaves for greens, the berries are poisonous

The berries make a great natural dye for fabrics
Pokeweed. It grows prolifically in the South. Early spring, the greens can be eaten safely, but because of their bitterness, they need to boil through a few different waters. The stalk of the leaves can be sliced, breaded and fried before they become too tough............a regular Southern delicacy, much like fried okra. Avoid eating the berries.
It’s a variety of nightshade. We have it here in Indiana, too. As folks have said, it’s poisonous.

Pokeweed. As a four year-old I had my stomach pumped for eating the berries. Forty years later in Arkansas I was served poke salad (boiled young leaves) and found it to be delicious, like spinach.
