I know this is not an award winning shot, but I am looking for help identifying this tree. I took this shot quickly through the window of a fast moving tourist coach bus in South America (Uruguay) without having time to set the camera correctly in advance. I have seen strange looking baobab trees in Africa but never a tree with this kind of trunk. Any ideas? . . .
Thanks.
It might be a ceiba tree. I know they have them in Costa Rica, so maybe also in Uruguay?

Fine, clear photograph. Enough to possibly make an ID.
Not much response on this, tho.
No one bothered to even look.
Phytolacca dioicia. Known locally as "umbĂș".
Related to Pokeweed. More herbaceous trunk than woody.
Where are you based, If I may be nosey?
I see this was shot in Uruguay from a tour bus. Comfortable way to travel. Leave the driving to someone else.
Bill
Certainly an interesting tree

You caught me by surprise, brother. I posted this tree photo ages ago and had already forgotten about it. There wasn't much interest shown by fellow UHHers. ___ As to your question, the answer is: I live on
Cloud 9 in the northern sky which is pretty nice, but I'm so depressed because no one shows any interest in my photos . . . .
Thanks for the tree ID. That was the first time I saw one of those.

I am Bill, my main thing is beetles and other 'bugs'.
But all nature gets my attention.
And I have a good library in my room.
Nice meeting you.

Hi Bill, nice meeting you too. I was kidding about being depressed. I post whatever and whenever I like. Comments are appreciated but I know many ony look without commenting. I travel all over the world and have a huge image portfolio to choose from. . . .
