I know they sell grey market, but with Canon servicing them the same as used why would you buy used for more instead of a grey market new?

With a Canon refurb, you get a warranty, even if it’s a short one. When you buy grey market, even though Canon will do repairs, you don’t get any warranty. You have to pay for the repairs yourself. With a refurb you have a bit of a piece of mind, and even though you buy used, say from another person, if it’s a U.S. model, you can at least get repairs done if it’s a Nikon. With grey market it’s a coin toss, hoping nothing goes wrong with it.

He didn't say "Canon refurb". He is comparing a preowned used camera to a grey market camera - both have no warranty at all.

So to answer his question, because a used camera will cost less. Yes, you save about 10% buying a new grey market but you can get a used camera from a private party for like 50% less (sometimes). It just depends on how long the camera body has been on the market. When the Canon 5D Mark III first came out I could only find a used one for a few hundred dollars off new. So I bought it and it worked great till the day I sold it. But when I sold my 7D body just before the new 7D II came out, I only got $600 for when new they were selling for $1300. But hell, it was a 5 or 6 year old camera by then. So the person buying it got more than 50% off that camera.

The OP was referring to Red Tag Camera on Ebay I believe. They sell new, grey market gear.
Wingpilot was offering a comparison between Canon "Refurb" vs Red Tag Camera and other Grey Market offerings.
The "Refurb" was being offered as a below new retail option with a warranty.
Regarding "used", I believe he was referring to "used Like New" offerings from the usual sources, not ebay. Often these offerings are more than the new grey market offerings.

Squaretrade, one of the largest companies providing third party warranties, doesn't care if it's grey market. Their rates are very good, and they are 100% honest and reliable.Check out their web site.

Actually Harry I purchased two Grey Market Cameras via Amazon.com. One I saved 27% and the other 24%. Obviously both were new and in the original box with all original items included as if I had paid full price. But you need to be careful who you buy Grey Market from. I trusted Amazon because of their 30 day return policy. I would also trust B & H and Adorama. A used camera may or may not come with some kind of warranty, and the thing that always bothered me about buying used is you really don't know "how used." You can often get shutter click numbers which is somewhat helpful, but you have no idea how many times that used camera has been back for repairs during its lifetime.

Just my thoughts and personal experience and I get the feeling I am in a minority on this site when it comes to Grey Market.

Thank you, The camera I have been looking at is selling for 1500 to 1700 used from KEH and for 1299 new from Red Tag. The difference in price won't kill me but I like starting out with o actuations vs 75000 on one and 140000 on the other. If this was a Nikon I would not think of it, but Canon will fix it either way.
