Probably too broad of a subject, but I may have to cancel a b-day trip I had planned for early June to Spain and Portugal (not very safe anywhere at the moment). Thinking of maybe same time next year to Thailand or Scandinavia (or maybe still Spain). Any other suggestions? Looking for something in the 2-week range. So many choices out there on the travel sites!

My only suggestion on the Thailand destination is that the only time of year that is suitable is from mid November thru mid February, the sweet month is December. Wonderful photo ops all over the country. All bets off if it is as smokey as it has been for the last two seasons.

I may have much more than 2 weeks to have vacation if school stays closed, but I've been having trouble filing from unemployment. Thailand is on my bucket list, but unless I took vacation during winter break December wouldn't work. Spain is getting worse. On CNN they said that the president of Spain said the state of emergency should be extended. I've also looked at Scandinavia as possibilities. I can't scroll to look at the other recent posts or I'll loose this response. The tour company says lots of people have already cancelled or rescheduled. I'll have to find somewhere to go before Dec 31 if I don't want to lose my airfare, which I bought on my own back in November...just heard that Sen. Rand Paul tested positive for the coronavirus and earlier Andrew Cuomo thinks that 40-80% of New Yorkers will eventually get the disease. Isn't life just one big enigma???

There are people trying to figure out how to go on with their lives after losing a loved on to this current scourge. There are people trying to figure out how to get by after losing their jobs in the on going financial collapse. You are trying to figure out where to go on vacation. I guess we are all trying to figure things out these days.

Hey, I'm a school bus monitor in IL, have been out of work for a week and last couple times I tried to get onto the computer to file for unemployment the website wouldn't let me in and the help line hung up on me. I'm not happy about my lack of income...is there something wrong with dreaming/planning something pleasurable for the future while one is stuck in the house? Being in my 50s and having a chronic disease I certainly don't feel invincible and my parents are in their 90s and 80s. And retirement acct has lost $80k since the beginning of the year - I need something to hope for!!!

Well, I've been checking the tour company website regularly and I no longer have to worry about whether or not to cancel my trip before May 5th (deadline). As of an update this morning, the company has suspended all trips through June 30 - as of yesterday, the latest update had put suspensions through April. Everyone scheduled to leave on a trip before 6/30 is being issued a "future travel credit" that can be used through the end of next year. Maybe I could add some cash to the pot next year and make it an all-out blast instead of waiting until I retire...or not. Unfortunately I'm not sure if I'll lose my airfare or not.

Indeed there are many interesting places in the US and Canada. You could not possibly see them all.

When considering current conditions it is helpful to note that that only 0.003% of humanity has been infected with COVID-19 and most will live. In contrast 0.24% (17 million) die each year without notice. There are also many other causes that are much more likely to take your life.

This is just AZ.
Keeping money in the USA and these sites are all absolutely incredible and a majority of them are seldom seen. Safe to visit, no terrorists and warm climate prevents Corona issues.
One could spend years just trying to see these in the depth as they should be. Some took me several days to fully explore and appreciate or several return visits like the Boyce Thompson Arboretum.
I have missed many other places of the hundreds I have visited in just AZ that are incredible.
No need to waste money on me too tourist traps outside of the USA but keep the money local and supporting American businesses.

I'm a little late to this discussion, but better late than never. We had a spring break trip to Marbella and Barcelona Spain cancelled. We were using our Marriott Vacation Club points for Marbella and didn't lose them, but they are "less usable" than before. We had been dragging our feet on the flights and had not yet made them, so we didn't lose anything on that. We had a Viking cruise from Venice to Barcelona in June that also got cancelled. They gave us the option of a full refund or a cruise voucher worth 125% of what we had paid them. We took them up on the latter and booked the same cruise plus a Rhine River cruise and some pre- and post-cruise extensions for a little more than the river cruise fare for one of us. We're booked for June 2022, so hopefully we'll be able to go then. If it's still a problem, we can cancel as late as 24 hours before our flight leaves and get a full voucher. Good luck on your future trip.

In the meantime I used the credit from my Spain trip, added $63 and booked a trip on almost the exact same dates for a tour of Ireland...a couple decades ago I was the only person on a tour of Great Britain that couldn't make the optional after-trip to Ireland. I'm going to make up for it next summer. I'll be spending my birthday enroute from Kilkenny to Waterford, which still sounds nice. I have a refund coming from Air France to my credit card sometime in the next month or two (they cancelled the flight) and I have credit on American and Delta for the costs of one-way flights I had to get out of. I think I have up till sometime in 2022 to use it or lose it, but I'll probably do the same thing - just different city. During preliminary research it seems like an airline I never thought of may have the best deals. TAP (Portugal airline) makes a connection somewhere in country on the way to Ireland. They're cheaper than Aer Lingus or Delta. Boston seems (as of mow) to be the best hub to leave from - I never thought of it before, but I guess cities with the biggest concentrations of natives are living have the best prices. I'll need to wait for a few months at least before I can check prices for next June, though.
