I have had Lightroom 6 for a couple years and have not used it much. I recently bought some presets and, even though I follow the directions, can’t get them to work.

I am looking for a good book for Lightroom 6. Any suggestions?

Thanks for any help

Chuck

There is Martin Evening's book from Adobe Press. It still seems to still be available, at least from Target. It covers EVERY feature in Lightroom in depth. No other book, to my knowledge, covers everything.

Could check Barnes & Noble for Scott Kelby’s LR book. Make sure it covers LR 6. Probably find a used 1 on Amazon.

This one is terrific. Got a question? Look up the chapter and get a clear, simple explanation.

I believe there are two versions of Kelby’s “How do I do .....” book. For LR 6, try and get the first edition, it’s still avail tho a little challenging to find. Pretty sure it’s available on Amazon.

Look too at u-tube. Most of these videos are entirely free. The subscription software is what will be demonstrated, but for LR classic, the differences are rather minor in the look and feel of the newest software as compared to LR6. You can watch the videos today / tomorrow even if you buy a book that needs to be delivered.

I know you asked for book recommendations, but I suggest you consider Laura Shoe’s video tutorials. They are extraordinary.

Try to find a used copy of Scott Kelby's books on Lightroom 6.

Check your version of LR6, too... the latest (and last) version is 6.14.

If needed, you can update to that version free from Adobe.

Note: When I installed 6.14... some time ago now... there was a glitch using the direct update from Adobe. Maybe it's been fixed. If not, Victoria Brampton, also known as the Lightroom Queen and a good online source of info and LR training... had an alternative means of updating posted. That was a "patch", if I recall correctly, which worked fine. www.lightroomqueen.com

I have Lightroom "how-to" books from both Martin Evening and Scott Kelby, too... Excellent.

First place to go to would be the online help manual at Adobe, it will give you the basics and is free. I also recommend Martin Evening's book and it is available as an ebook. He is very concise. Martin Evening knew the group who created Lightroom and PS so is a really good source for LR.

I just presents from Matt Kloskowalski and he very. plainly says his won't work with anything but the current Lightroom and photoshop. Check to make sure yours aren't that way also.

This is possibly the reason. In V6 Classic, "presets" were text-based XML-tagged files. Starting in version 8, the format changed where maybe presets from the future are not an option for the older software.

I hope not. I didn’t see any statements like that. I started the book today. Hopefully I can get through it an learn something along the way
