I managed to delete photos from my S/D card. I have gone online to get help. There are various you tube tutorials on how to retrieve them. All involve a retrieval app. They are purported to be free but they are not.
Does anyone know of a free app for that?
Google: Recuva
There is a Pro version, for a fee, and a free version which should do what you need.

Try this. I don't know if the 'free' programs mentioned in the article are really free but worth checking this out I think. Good luck.

When you buy a new Sandisk SD card from B&H there is a coupon with an activation # on the package. Download and install (good for 1 year.) Worked for me.
A few years back, I used 'Recuva' got 90% of the images back. Paid for the service, but cannot remember how much.

I have the free version on both laptop and desktop computers.
Have used it several times and and have nothing but praise for this program!
Just be sure that you don't use the card after deleting stuff and before running it through recuva: once an image is overwritten it's gone!
I guess that Iโm just lucky. I have never managed to delete photos from my SD cards before I copied them to my computer. I guess Iโm lucky to know exactly how to copy and move digital files of all kinds. And I am lucky to have learned how to do this from day one of working with computers. Iโm not trying to put anyone down but itโs a basic digital skill, just like using file cabinets and drawers and folders in an office setting.
Not lucky. Diligent. Understanding how to use your equipment and software beyond the absolute basics is diligence.
Have used the free version of Recuva. Worked great for me.
Most of the memory card makers have their own recovery software available for download.
Recuva (free version) has worked for me. Just be aware there are 2 modes: an initial scan mode that might work, and a deep scan mode to try if the initial scan doesn't. The deep mode will take a long time, just let it run, as it's scanning everything.
Start the program, use the wizard to help, select what type of files and where to scan. After the "file location" screen, when Recuva is ready to scan, notice the "Enable Deep Scan" check box. If the first scan doesn't find what you want, start the setup again and check this box.
Good luck
