Flash meter question

Does anyone know of a flash meter that will ignore pre-flashes? I don’t need it often, but would be nice to have one available. Thanks in advance...

Without doing any research I'm not sure, but pre-flashes only occur with TTL enabled systems. If your using a meter I would expect you're shooting in manual flash mode and wouldn't need the feature.

There are occasions where I’ll use TTL with multiple speed lights and just want to use TTL for a base exposure on each group so i can adjust from there Manually..

Thought that was what you were up to. The Godox system does that with a push of the TCM (TTL Convert to Manual) button on the pro trigger. You do a shot in ttl, push the button and it converts the power settings it used to manual. Quite handy!

Sure! It goes into manual mode and you can twiddle to your hearts content. It gets you in the ballpark in one shot.
(But I still have a flash meter)
You will need Godox/Flashpoint receivers if you don’t have their Speedlights or other lights they make. I have 5 of them.

Are you using an incident light meter? I just checked my Sekonic L-478 meter. There's no way to set it to ignore pre-flashes. A flash meter's reading will be affected by pre-flashes. I use it with studio strobes.

it is better to use manual flash than TTL especially for the portrait photos so that you take control just like you use manual mode in your DSLR camera.

TTL flash won't work without actually take a picture. So if I do that I simply view the picture to see if the lighting needs to be changed rather than using a flash meter. Besides unless you have the locking feature generally each shot with TTL is a little bit different.

i prefer not to use TTL flash because some times the portraits do not come out very well. when you use the manual flash,you need to reduce the flash output, use aperture of 1/5 and shutter speed of either !/125 sec or 1/250 sec and use a diffuser.for a group picture you need an aperture of 1/8.that is my personal opinion.

Is not the base problem that he has it in red eye mode, which usually has pre flash to reduce red eye? Then, very true he needs to get into manual mode to control and measure the light with his meter. Otherwise he is chasing a moving target with auto adjusting flash power.
