I check out UHH every day. I saw some pictures from Amboseli Africa and other parts of Africa lately. They were great. I thought I would share some. We went to Africa in 2019 – 1st time. Wonderful. Hoping to go back next year if virus subsidies.
Bought a D850 for the trip with 30-300 lens. I had a D7200. Rented a 200-500 lens. Planned to use the 30-300 on the 850 and the 200-500 on the D7200. Made the decision after 2 days to put the good glass (200-500) on the good camera, bad glass on bad camera. So the pics from Amboseli are not with the good glass. I learned from experience that the 30-300 brings down the D850 from excellent to good. The 200-500 on the 850 is excellent. Changed after Amboseli. Most of Amboseli is with he 30-300/D850.
I happened to meet a Nikon Ambassador in Barcelona in 2018 – Thomas Vijayan – nice person. He saw my 7200 on the table and introduced himself. We talked for a few minutes about photography and Africa. He was on his way home from getting the award for photograph of the year in Africa (“Paws of Death” – check it out on his facebook page). 2 things that stuck out were shoot the eyes and quick shutter speed to stop action. I tried but there are quantum differences in photos.
I don’t have illusions about being a great photographer, but I do like looking at my pictures. I also look at UHH pictures every day. Some are amazing, some are so-so. But I like them all. They all capture a moment. These are some of them.
Dust devil along side of the main road from Nairobi to Amboseli. . I like reflections in window.

1st lion I saw so somewhat sentimental. 850 w/ 30-300. Technically not a great picture but lion is looking at camera and that helps. I like the framing.

I would love this picture more if in focus (actually love it anyway). But I like that they happened to be looking at the camera during their joust.

My favorite pic of Kilimanjaro at sunrise. Amboseli is desert and all the water comes from K’s snowmelt. It could all go away with global warming.

This pic is not perfectly focused and is grainy. But 3 things I like about it. 1 - looking at the camera and the color (not enhanced) of the other 2.

Like the lighting and contrast of this elephant fresh from the water and mud.

"... but I do like looking at my photos." So do I, Mike. So do I.
Thanks so much for posting.

It may not be kosher to mention anything about the 'coloration' in #9, so instead I'll say the elephant in your finale is pretty nifty.

...that's how I felt at the drive-in many a time!
...BTW, the shots are fine!
I wouldn’t exactly call a D7200 a “bad” camera.
Mike .., pretty cool stuff .., I love the Kilimanjaro shot ... glad you enjoy looking at your shots .., I enjoy looking at your shots .., haven’t been on Safari in Africa for over 30 years.., and only had a borrowed video camera ..,
Wonderful images Mike ... you captured some of the attraction many of us feel for Africa. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful set Mike. And this is your only post? Stop lurking and post some more, especially I would like to see more with the 200-500 mounted on the 850.
Some very nice shots Mike.
Nice set. I really like #3.
