Kenya ... Predators ... Hyenas ...

During a recent trip to Kenya, I spent most of my time at El Pejeta Conservancy, approximately a 4 hour drive due North of Nairobi, where I was able to shoot an amazing collection of wildlife. I've already posted some shots I got there on UHH, however, I've been saving the Predators for last. The 1st selection of predators I'd like to highlight, seem not to be the most popular critters here on the Hog. However, I find the Hyenas to be amazing ... sure, they are scavengers, but so is the Eagle, our national symbol. In fact, a recent post by CindyHouk ... Eagles are thieves!! ... put a fine point on how they survive by taking advantage of those around them.

So while I will admit, that I don't regard the Hyena as highly as I do the big cats (they just seem to look a bit sneaky & guilty when I look at them), they do exhibit qualities such as loyalty & teamwork ... they're tenacious & tough as hell ... & they clearly perform a needed function in their environment. They are so tough, they are sometimes competition even for the King of the Jungle, as you'll see in an upcoming post.

In many of my posts, I've tried to capture the babies, however Keith (RetiredCPO), who also went on this trip, did a better job capturing them then I did (see his earlier posts).

I hope you will enjoy the photos of these critters just as I enjoyed taking them.

Thank you ... I appreciate the comment & I liked those shots as well. I did get 1 shot that's even better, which I'm saving for a future post. They are much maligned, but I think they are an amazing critter. Thanks for the look & comment.

Thanks Mike ... he's a good guy to travel with ... but damn, he's focused!!!! There's no fooling around when there's wildlife to shoot!!!! Speaking for me ... I had a ball & would leave tomorrow if I could schedule another trip with him. Thanks for the visit & comment. Appreciated as always.

PS: I never see you refer to your gang any more ... how come?

Yes, we ran into them often. They were spread out in several places on Ol Pejeta Conservancy where we also got to shoot them near their burrows with little ones. They are surely interesting critters. Thanks for the visit & comment. Appreciate it.
