Judging from little tidbits the upcoming R5 sounds like Manna from the above... up to 7.5 stops of stabilization with selected lenses coupled with the latest news of focus recognition of dogs, cats , birds and other small animals. This should be a real boon for all the birders on this site. As has been discussed before, computational photography is upping the game as we speak... let's see, do I prefer holographic or old school images. LOL

It sounds interesting, but I will have to try before buying myself.

What's an "R5"? Who makes it?

It is a new top of the line full frame mirrorless camera from Canon. Some of the specifications are available but the camera itself has not been released yet.

If focus recognition of animals is a boon for birders has to be seen ( I don't think it be of any advantage)!

For sale: 1 kidney, works great or will trade it for a new R5. Seriously I do bet this will be around the $5000 mark especially since it does 8k video with no crop.

The R5 Looks to be incredible. 8K FF, 20FPS, all the AF detection modes one could want.
Pretty awesome.

Nothing remotely like it.

The tracking demonstration and ability of the coming 1Dx3 seems pretty impressive. I would think the developments are along the same path for the R5...

Revolution says Canon, not evolution... Best mirrorless ever made says some. Sony might not have a free lunch in the future. Before you get your panties in a wad think about the Canon Way....slow out of box, conservative in evaluating and adding features, but when the product is finally thought and engineered out, the end result sets the bar. Don't listen to a hack like me; Research and You-tube. Time will tell, but this could be one heck of a camera.

Just like the EF was late to the dance but destroyed the competition for 30 years with the others playing catch up and many ways have not been able to still.
All your EF/EFs lenses work 100% on the RF system. That is because Canon was that far ahead over 30 years ago. Now those complaining about the old FD, FL and R lenses not working without a glass adapter, well, they ALL work now just great on the new RF system reviving the great old Canon lenses so all their lenses including the old screw in ones now work just fine.
No one has that claim of such compatibility except Canon.

I was thinking of you yesterday while watching this video. Although the video is about the FD 50mm F/1.2L, note the images all come from the EOS R via the NEWYI FD-E.R Adapter: https://youtu.be/zphetP1CsF0
