I had a Canon i9900 for many years and it was a great printer . It was relatively fast and was able to print 13 x 19 photos. I recently bought another Canon Pro 9000 Mark II and find that it does a very good job as well...one problem that I find annoying is that it is slow in getting started and must have patience to wait for the print to come out. The inks are a slight improvement to the previous machines with really no big noticeable difference. Just printed a few photos so will have to see as time passes if it was worth the switch.

I purchased a 9500Pro about 6 months ago from the USA at a very good price. However, the printing is painfully slow, in fact much slower than any previous Canon Ink Jet Printers I have used, either in color or B&W. I think it is a problem with the model. Also, the Canon ink jet cartridges are outrageously expensive in Australia (AUS$31.00 each). I think one just has to grin and bear it.

Hi Elliott, I have had the Pixma 9500 for a while now and love it. I must say there are certain inks that run out faster then others..grey etc but that would be true with any printer.
If you going to run a lot of prints then it gets expensive since the inks are not cheap ($15.00 per color). I have a friend who prints with the 9000 and she is very happy with that one.
Bottom line, I love my printer and have always been pleased with the results of both color and b&w. If you belong to NAPP then you can buy your inks with there discount. Good luck! I don't think you will be disappointed.

Thanks a bunch Hando Rei, Terry1938 and Nikocarol for the replies about your experience with the 9500. I have used an Epson 3000 for several years and it has been a workhorse, still is but now looking for something with higher resolution and archival print capability. From reading online reviews (some biased I'm sure) I wanted hear directly from the people that are using one, I think you get a better understanding of the pros and cons that way. I have two uses or needs for the printer, one is to print high res photos for my clients and myself and the other is to print small decals on pressure sensitive vinyl. This second use is the main topic I wanted to cover with someone that uses the 9500 with the pigment inks. Would anyone be willing to print me a small sample (4" x 6") if I sent a piece of the material to see if it would work, the material is very similar to gloss photo paper on the surface. I'm wondering if these inks used in the 9500 will stick to this material, it's the same material that the larger format printers use and is formulated for inkjets but really want to do a test to see how the inks would hold up before making the decision to purchae the 9500. I am willing to pay for anyone's time/ink and will cover postage for you to return the sample. Anyone interested and willing to help me with this please click my profile and use my PM to contact me and we'll figure out how to get this done.
Thanks again,

ED,

I don't use the 9500 (I have an HP700 e809). Have you considered contacting Canon direcly? You could supply them with samples and then test them upon return for adhesion (tapeoff would be my first thought).

PD

Thanks for the reply Photodog,
Nice printer you have there. Yes, I've have considered asking Canon for a sample but getting info from them on something like this is usually a "canned response" without any real info or waiting weeks for them to get around to making a sample and getting it back to you. That is the reason for requesting info from actual owners of the 9500. Maybe someone will chime in that can provide something I can test in a real life situation. This is not for permanent outdoor prints but temporary vinyl decals, they would need to be somewhat weatherproof after a UV clearcoat was applied and could last a few months outdoors as promotional advertisements.

Elliot, I may or may not be able to help u. First I would like to add that I buy most of my inks on eBay for my Canon lg format 5000. Inks Nero for $80 but have paid as little as $7.50 but never more than $50. If you got reset chip you might be able to buy large format tanks and refill.
I use both a 9000mkll and the ipf

I use both a 9000mkll and the ipf5000. I find they print almost exactly the same including print speed. Never thought it was slow.
Next if u can't find someone to print for u I would be happy to help. My 5000 uses the exact same Lucia inks as the 9500 only with two more colors. Also I would need an 8.5x11 sample as its the smallest I can feed but could put several images on one piece. I'm in CA. Hope I can be of help.

Thanks Les2297, I appreciate your offer, I'm interested in having you make me a small sample print on the 9500 if you are using the Lucia ink system with the pigmented inks. Email me: Larry (at) elliottdesignpro (dot com) and we'll work out the details.
Gratefully,,,,

SharpShooter, appreciate the info on the inks. What size format is the 5000? Sounds like a nice printer, I've seen some paper prints from the 9000 and they look almost continuous tone like a photograph. My old Epson 3000 does a fair job on posters and rough work that will be viewed from a few feet away but uses dye based inks and is good for indoors only.
Thanks,,,,

Larry, the ipf 5000 is the smallest big printer made by Canon. Since replaced by the 5100. Uses 17" rolls up to 150' long, depending on the weight. I've printed panos 4 ft long and banners 8ft long that went outside. Bought mine used two years ago for $900 with full inks. I've seen them lately for as little as $299 used with no ink. Check it out. But won't do 4x6 unless u print several and cut them out. But it will print a PDF file so expands the possibilities if u use Illustrator. And though more money the ink tanks are 130ml. That's why I say use them for refill. may be possible to fill your own with OEM ink. Maybe that guy DownUnder might look into that.
Hope this helps.
