Last weekend visited Ted Shanks Conservation Area in Pike County, Mo. Got up close to this young Red Tail Hawk who must have been having a bad day as he had mud on beak, claws and on lower belly. He could fly, not well, but did not seem to want to. He let us take quite a few shots as long as we did not get too close.
Nice photos! I’m intrigued by the blue color on its beak.

hettmoe,
Thanks! I was also intrigued by the blue color. I did not enhance blue in post, it shows up in the raw file. A friend was with me and he was shooting Sony and me Canon, and his close ups side views also show the blue in the beak. I'd love to know why but internet searches have not come up with anything.
