Marked improvement after camera firmware update. No birds, had to settle for a squirrel. This is SOOC. I am much happier now.

I've had mine for over a year now and it's brilliant on both my D7200 and my D500...focus is brilliantly fast and no other problems of any sort...
this series was shot (D500) in one second (5 frames/second) using Grp focus points and CAF...the honey eater was shot with spot focus (SAF) from about 30 meters away, hand held...
You'll never get me to say it's slow to focus, certainly not on my Nikon cameras...I had the 150-500 before and it was also very good but the 150-600 is just that bit better again, the extra reach is great..

Cropped to 8 x 10 ratio and a 5% sharpen only
