I would finish my project of digitizing old photos of family and friends that I started about 10 years ago. Maybe I will start again now!
I have photos from my parents and other relatives relatives who have passed, plus my photos. I already culled out many images and digitized the best b&w prints, slides, 8mm, 16mm and color prints through about 1990 of family. I then added family photos after I started with a digital camera and sent my family .jpg copies on flash drives. I have about 2 bankers boxes left of color prints to do from 1990 until 1999 when I went digital.
I read a few other good ideas here. Print a few in books for family. Take more family portraits which I am very remiss at doing.
While I thought about this, it was interesting to remember my father and my transition with cameras from a Graphflex, film rangefinders, SLRs, 1999 digital cameras, DSLR, Mirrorless, cellphones... And the transitions from film B&W prints from the dark room - slides - color prints - digital .jpg and finally raw images. Now I like the digital world to take many photos, edit and print the best to hang on my walls. And send some to family too...

A friend, who is not dying, just received the news they need to battle cancer for the fourth time in the last seven years. As we talked, the conversation turned to as a photographer what would you do with what time was remaining............and I ask you as a photographer. What would you do?

I would give my equipment to a young person in a photography class and try to teach them what I know about photography.

For years I have collecting pictures I would like to take. Whenever I see someone else’s picture that was special, I take a photo of it with my phone. I then put into a collection of pictures I would like to take. I don’t try to copy the picture, just the idea. For example, one might be of Arches natl park at sunset.

BTW, I really appreciate the comment by the person working with hospice patients!

I would continue to take pictures of places, while I am able to travel, parks, zoos and around town when I can go no further, family and back yard when I am homebound, and anything else I can shoot as long as my camera works and I am not in too much pain. My last shot would be a selfie if able, I am rarely in any pictures.

Photograph as much of Disney World and surrounding attractions while healthy enough. After all it is “the wonderful world of color” as they used to say.

You don't have something you wish you had done.......as a photographer......but declined doing it for some reason?

Having spent a fair amount of time the past few years sitting in waiting rooms at doctors' offices, or getting one form of rehab or another, or taking up space in a hospital bed, I've noticed that there are a lot of people who of necessity invest a lot of their time getting (or waiting to get) treatment or therapy. Almost all of these people have incredibly interesting faces, often much more interesting than the faces of the people who populate most of the magazine ads and tv screens.

I have a feeling that if, or when, I'm facing the grim reaper myself, I might be interested in doing some portrait studies of folks who are in a position similar to mine. Of course, I figure this might involve some discussion of some pretty sensitive issues with my potential subjects; but, after all, what have I got to lose?

We are dealing with death and dying at this time. 3 of the grandparents are all near the end of their journey on this planet. If I were dying from cancer I would photograph and document the disease progress. Not so much for my family but for others who may be studying the death and dying process. I would keep a journal and note my feelings, physical activity, joys and sorrows. As my Mom said before she died from breast cancer... "Being dead isn't so bad, it is getting there that is so hard." I was her hospice support system. I am glad I took the time to do it. Cancer sucks.
