Beautiful shots. That rock in #2 looks like a huge wood stump.

I agree, Ken, that Sedona is magical. But just HOW EARLY do I have to get up to "be away from the crowds"?
Depends on where you want to shoot. If you want to shoot around town (Bell rock, Chapel of the Holy Cross, the 2 state parks, Airport Mesa) by 9am the tourists are on the main trails. What I normally do is hike the back trails - there are lots of them. If you like Bell Rock, there is a series of trails that link together and take you out of the well traveled areas to the back side of Bell Rock and to the Courthouse trail. The Little Horse Trail will get you to Chicken Point and pass close the the Chapel of the Holy Cross. There are jeep tours that take you to Chicken Point but the trail is the way to go. Not a strenuous trail but there are 2 good uphill sections.
If you really want to do some out of the way hiking - head north east toward Boynton Road. There are a number of almost wilderness trails out there including a hike up Doe Mountain that is incredible. The Faye Canyon trail is a slot canyon that is pretty secluded. Use the All Trails app for detailed trail info - or even better get a trails map from Sedona Running Company off Coffee Pot Drive. The tourist maps are uysless for the best trails. The Sedona Running Company has waterproof maps that will last for years. We have used one for at least 5 years now and it still is in great shape. PM if you want some other tips on trails or where to stay.

It actually is a tree (or at least was a tree !) . Not sure if its really petrified but everything there takes on the coloring of the rocks as the sun bakes the dust and dirt into everything. I think its mesquite and naturally dense and hard and similarly colored.
Thanks for looking in

Beautiful for sure. Sedona is such a beautiful place for striking images.
MT Native -
I think you folks in Montana have some equally beautiful scenery. Looking to start heading north towards your state on trips over the next few years.
Thanks to everyone for your comments and for checking out the posts. I am going to try and get some of the other shots I have up today.

I am putting a few more out there in another post this afternoon - look for it to get a better idea of the area.

Beautiful sharp images and color.
Presently in beautiful Sedona enjoying all the magnificent red rock and scenery.
What is the name of the high school and itโs location? Weโll be in Sedona a few weeks and would love to explore the area that you referred to.
Thanx for any information.
