Vertical White Band on Left Edge of Photo

About a month ago I purchased a Canon 6D MkII to replace my 80D. Since then, I have used the 6D exclusively and have been quite pleased with the results. Today I was out looking for an interesting subject to photograph and came across an interesting looking bird. I took 117 photos and when I downloaded them to my computer tonight, 16 of the photos had a horizontal white band, of differing widths, along the left edge. I use my camera daily and this has never happened before. I have posted one of those photos to show what I am talking about. The photo was shot with the 6D and a Canon 70-300 mm lens. What caused the white band? Is it a problem with the camera? the SD card? the photographer? I used the following settings: Aperture-priority; aperture 5.6; shutter speed 1/640; ISO 200; focal length 300mm. I appreciate any insights anyone can provide.

It looks like you were leaning against a wall or were close to one and it became part of your picture.

Thanks for the reply, but I was out in an open field for all of the shots, both those with the white band and those without.

Are you shooting RAW and/or JPEG? Your numbers have the issue at about 10%. So go out, shoot Raw and JPEG, and bang off 40 shots of a vertical object like a telephone pole or a street light pole, and position the object right on the viewer's left border.
Before you transfer the images, review them in the camera. Then copy them to your PC and review again.
This, I hope, will help define your issue. For what it's worth, I suspect the culprit is corrupted software/firmware in the camera.
I wish you well.
Chuck

I was shooting JPEG. If the culprit is corrupted software/firmware in the camera, what is the fix for that?

Was the Canon 6D MK2 a new purchase? Who did you purchase the camera from?

Place a mark on the current SD card and remove and set assign, not using that card any longer. See if the problem ever reoccurs on a new SD card. If it continues on a new card, contact Canon.

Does not make sense to engage in 'what if's' at this point. You need to listen to what has been suggested and diagnose the problem first. Then figure out the solution.

It's hard to guess at it. One guess would be if the shutter moves from left to right it is not fully reseating, leaving part unexposed. Is it under warranty? Send it in. If not, you can experiment but don't harm it further. I guess I would try a different memory card, try reinstalling camera and lens firmware, not difficult, maybe try shooting a couple long bursts to see if the shutter loosens up. Mostly I would send it in for a pro to diagnose.

Abe's has a horrible reputation, including selling gray market cameras, etc. That's your first problem. I would send it in hoping they recognize whatever warranty you have.

Ruht roe....

Did you ever ID the bird? Appears to be a woodpecker of some sort, but solid red head and speckled belly are interesting. Location?

A red-breasted sap sucker. I saw it on Joint Base Lewis-McChord which is just south of Tacoma, WA.
