I have seen the results of Lake effect snow before,
but never have I seen anything like this,
poor people of Hamburg NY and the results of ice effect coming off of Lake Erie.

Side note, not my photo.

Interesting that the house on the very far right doesn't have any ice on it at all. Lousy insulation ?

I noticed that also....
I know this was caused by lake effect winds, so I'm wondering if that side was possibly blocked from the house in the photo.

I'm so glad I moved to Florida over 50 years ago.

Texas is almost as good. One year there were only two weekends that I couldn't get out to golf. However, that was an exceptional year. Now it's my body that gets in the way.

I hope it is a summer house and not a year-round residence

Impressive for sure, but why no ice on neighboring house? Is it possible ice house residents went south for the winter, and neighbors stayed with some heat on inside? If so, that certainly does not detract from the impressiveness of the ice, but it may lend some understanding of it.

No I dont think so,
I first saw this on the news, and they showed it and it looked liked the whole neighborhood was iced in.. . This happened because of wind off of Lake Erie...so I'm guessing that depending on wind direction and which side of the house, some sides could be ice free.

Where IS the door?

That appears to be the back of the house, so there are probably sliding glass doors under the windows.

the house on the right has no ice. I wonder if there is any heat on the other two buildings.

I lived there for 63 years and these houses are right on the Lake (they wanted Lake Front) and the wind blows off the Lake in their direction. Their choice.

Living, as I do, in the temperate climate of Oz, I could never understand why early man left Africa and headed into the frozen wastes to the north. Their brains had to be somewhat addled IMHO. And modern man still lives there, that is beyond my comprehension!!
