The net worth should be fine if GAS is as dangerous as the Corona Virus. The common flu will
kill tens of thousands more people in the US than Corona...

On the other hand, when you go out to shoot with your gear you can look as cool and
professional as she does.

What is the best camera I own?
It all depends on what I'm shooting.
I would not use my D5 for shooting landscapes unless it were the only camera I had with me.

...yes, you are right. I guess it's how we feel about the word "best"... ;0) Taking it all into context, no I wouldn't shoot landscapes with mine, either, but if I did I'm sure they'd turn out just fine. My go to body right now is the Z6 <shrug> however, all that money for one body...well, every time I use it I just can't help grinning alot. Today I shot 12,626 images with it...a pageantry show, in a dingy gym, from 9 to 9 basically (yes there was a lunch, heh), looking at the results and am not surprised at the consistent excellence. Because that's what it's designed for, eh?

I was a bit underwhelmed by the specs when they were announced...

With the D6, you're paying for a lot of features related to professional workflow: specifically developed for photographers at events to get their best images published as quickly as possible.

From Nikon's D6 overview:
https://www.nikon.com/news/2020/0212_dslr_01.htm

"The D6 also contributes to a faster on-site post-shooting workflow that is so vital to professional users. It does so with new functions that enable faster transmission of decisive photos, including one that allows photographers to transmit their winning images first with a flick operation using the camera monitor that moves the current image to the top of the waiting list*2, and another that enables simultaneous recording of two JPEG images with different size and quality settings — a smaller one suited to transmission and a larger one for editing, for example. What's more, the D6 supports the same 1000BASE-T Ethernet standard as the D5, with an approximate 15% increase in its transmission speed. Together with the built-in Wi-Fi® capability, it makes for a complete response to the wired and wireless networking needs of professional photographers. Further, equipping the camera with a GPS function*3 enables acquisition of accurate date, time, and location information."

Yes I like Canon.
But I can read as well as anyone else can.
Check the difference between the MII and MIII you see a huge difference.
D5 and D6 virtually nothing.
You as a Nikon fanboy just do not want to admit it.

...problem is, it's unlikely you "readers" will ever really shoot with either of these fine cameras. <shrug> And I don't mean playing with it at a store or trade show, I've been tempted to rent a 1DXIII and a lens and take it out shooting sporting-type stuff, *then* I could talk about the camera with some authority...anything else is supposition...

You lack imagination. It simply involves removing your left thumb and pinky and swapping positions. Of course you’ll have to hold that camera upside down, but hey, the trade off might be worth it.

Thanks for the tip.

@CHG CANON Actually real photographers use a Nikon FM with manual focus and manual exposure. We also use manual flash and carry our gear in leather saddle bags.

I don't think he ever had a Nikon FM.

I've shot my D5 so much, the shutter has been replaced. I expect to get the same use out of the D6, while still carrying my D5, but as second camera. I am awaiting the new focusing system and the one stop improvement. Some will like the WiFi and GPS. The D6 has many important improvements over the D5 for us sports guys. Best of luck.

...yah man, the stop alone is worth it!

For my work, that is absolutely true, especially when combined with an improved focus system. This camera is aimed at sports shooters and that's my main focus. I will be adding this body, not trading for it, as my personal copy of the D5 is getting a bit long in the tooth. If you don't need one or don't want one, that's perfectly fine with me. I'm neither seeking your opinion or your approval as I have had mine ordered with NPS for a bit. Best of luck.

I have a D5 & a D810. There is NOT enough improvement to move to a D6 yet - If Nikon makes a D7 then maybe. I'd love to have an 850 but, my D810 is still a proven camera. If I were just shooting travel photos - I'd never consider a D5 or 6. It's not what they (D5/6) are designed to do. Stick with the D850 and if you need a few more frames per second get a battery grip and save yourself a bundle.
