I also enjoyed MT's posts. Hope he keeps updated on his travels.
I bought my Nest Carbon Fiber Gimbal from MTShooter - great guy to work with and love my Nest. (PS: I'm going on a cruse in a few weeks - no plans to cancel.
I certainly do. That's the "no sense of adventure" part of the question.

You might find that B&H will get you things faster. Many will miss Carter. Best of luck.
B & H is a great place (People and equipment) but, the local store is the place to talk to people( who know) and have hands on the stuff you want to buy. I don't think you can beet that.
PS I'm not a dealer, just a guy with a camera for 70+ years.
I also enjoyed MT's postings. He provide some very helpful suggestions to me and many others.
Wish him the best, and a healthy and fun filled retirement.
My choice is to spend three or four hours in heavy Seattle freeway traffic consuming about $20 in gas for a good camera store or buy from B&H.
Last year one of our locally owned camera stores (National Camera Exchange, Minnesota) closed one of their three retail outlets. I imagine sales volume was the reason. There is another local store, West Photo in Minneapolis. I patronize the bricks & mortar stores before online, then it is B&H.
Too bad someone didn't buy the store to keep it going.

Today I found out that the owner of the Camera Cottage in Billings Mt had retired and closed the store just recently. Carter, who is known here as MTShooter ran one of the very few camera store in the area and did an outstanding job of it.He was always interesting to talk to and his store will be missed by all of the local photographers in the area. This is another change to adapt to and order more online. I needed some sensor swabs and had a strong desire for a new lens today. So I stopped at BB after I saw that Carter had closed shop. BB doesn’t sell Tamron or carry sensor swabs. So I ordered from BH and it will be here in a week or so.
Congratulations, Mt Shooter on a well earned retirement!

I would think it had to do with the coronavirus outbreak in Italy.
I suspect Best Buy will try to fill in where local competition goes away and will do pretty good with cameras, lenses and other basics. But they will never replace a good full service, local camera store. We have the largest independent appliance and electronic store in the country in the northern suburbs of Chicago, ABT, and I have watched them really develop a wide assortment of photography gear and expertise--but they can't hold a candle to B&H.

Glad to hear of MT’s successful retirement but sad to hear his store is closed. I have enjoyed and learned form his many contributions here on UHH. Best of Luck to MT! Enjoy your well earned retirement!
Arise of on-line sales venues are not the biggest problem. After all, all stores can offer an on-line product if they wish. The replacement of the point and shoot camera, replaced by the the cell phone, greatly reduced revenue for retail camera sales. More people than ever are taking photos but they didn’t buy the cell phone camera from a camera store and they don’t need the camera store to print or share images. And high performance camera sales cannot replace that revenue. But worse high performance camera sales numbers continues to shrink. It is a shrinking market with shrinking revenue, meaning there will be fewer outlets and products.
