I see cameras like the D3 and the D700 with 12 Mp. and they are capable of huge enlargements. I have no experience with cameras like the D850 but in my case I do not need 45 MP. of resolution since I never go beyond 13x19 inches with my enlargements. To pack so many pixels in a sensor something has to give. Too many pixels in such a small space.

Sharpness depends a lot on how we use our lenses. A super sharp lens with excellent MTF curves does not guarantee sharpness when we do not do our job.

Hi Curt I have the D5 and the D850 my D5 blows the doors off of the D850 Don't let the resolution scare you my D5 is my go to camera not many differences from the new D 6 The D5 or D6 is a much higher quality Camera all my studio photo shoots mostly with my D5 my 2 cents and yes it is worth the money Mike

Agree. I'm less the 850 (still holding out with my 800 if I want megapixels) but my D5 is the best camera I own...by a long shot.

I NEVER CAN UNDERSTAND HOW MANUAL EXPOSURE IS SOMEHOW BETTER, YOU ARE USING THE SAME METER TO ADJUST MANUALLY AS THE CAMERA IS USING TO DO IT !! IF YOU SAY YOU CAN ADJUST IT DIFFERENTLY YOU CAN DO IT WITH COMP IN AUTO !! SOMEONE PLEASE STRAIGHTEN ME OUT I HAVE FELT THIS WAY A LONG TIME BUT NEVER ASKED, SO HELP ME UNDERSTAND !!

It is a way for some here to claim superiority over the rest of us.

What’s the point of our photography? Everything seems absurd until someone admires our equipment.

Is the D6 worth the money? Is a cardiac bypass worth the money? Yes, if you need it. No, if you don't. I have a D850 and a D500 and I'm a happy photographer.

If I had the money I would buy the D6! Pixels are overstated!

When it comes to the flagship cameras I have to wonder how many of those saying they are not needed have ever used one or even touched one... I guess people have lots of different philosophies when it comes to camera gear...

As the commercial says it’s your money use when you want too..

It's so much easier to admire the 45MP camera than to produce results worth admiring.

Real photographers know that's manual exposure, not manual focus ...

And “real photographers” don’t always shoot manual exposure either. And they don’t always shoot raw.

I was going to get a D6 and when the reviews emerged, I held off. Now Nikon is rumored to producing a Z8, Z9 and D880. I'm going to see how it washes out before I purchase. The D850, Z7, Z6 and D500 are great cameras.

Not even close for the D6.
The D6, as you look at the specs, is a warmed over D5 with some firmware improvements.
Sort of like Sony did with the a9 to a9II.
Price is the biggest difference between the D5 and D6.

So in other words it’s comparable to the difference between the 1D Mark iii and the 1D Mark ii
For the casual user it’s not a big difference but for the pro those are some nice improvements.

A true masterpiece doesn't tell you anything about the camera used.

The MII and MIII are hugely different.
You obviously never read the specs and compared them.
The MIII is a quantum leap from the MII and has many what will be the pro Mirrorless features in it.
The video capability is night and day.
20 fps is way above the MII speed.
on and on.
