Thanks all you birders. We have several varieties of raptors and some are real hard to figure out like the Coppers Hawk vs Sharp Shinned hawk.

Often the shape of the tail is a tip-off. The red tail has a more scalloped edge than either coopers (rounded) or sharp shinned (more squared off).

A buzzard is a hawk in Europe in the Buteo, or broad winged, hawk group.
Our 'buzzards' are actually new world Vultures.
There looks to be three Buteos in your area. This one looks to be the Red Tail, (Buteo jamaicensis), according to Nat. Geo. bird book.
To those who must make an uninformed guess, you cloud, not clarify the issue.
Checking in a good field guide before blindly stabbing at an ID would help. Guessing only adding to any confusion WHEN you are wrong, not if.
Common names confuse, not clarify an ID issue in most cases. Learning the scientific name is not really all that hard, and eliminates that confusion, (for some people).

Definitely not a buzzard, some kind of hawk!

You are thinking vulture. Vultures are a part of the buzzard family like the Redtail and some other hawks. The Redtail Hawk is actually a buzzard.

Looks like a Red Tailed Hawk to me. Definitely not a buzzard -- they are ugly and have no feathers on their heads.

Just so it is known, buzzard is the common name of several species of hawk like birds (Buteo), including in the US, the turkey vulture, colloquially called a "buzzard" in many parts of North America. Also, in Europe, many of the genus Buteo are also called buzzard.

Thank you wdross. I know we're on different continents, but there are plenty of similarities and it definitely isn't a vulture!🤔

It's an immature red-tailed hawk.
And for the person who mentioned it, we have several species of buzzard in America. Over here they're called vultures. we have black vultures, turkey vultures and California condors. All of them lack feathers on the head.

This shot really helps with the identity of the Red-Tailed Hawk

Hi,
I do believe that it is a Buzzard.

Yes, it IS a “buzzard” (member of the genus Buteo) but is, more specifically a young red-tailed hawk.

Thanks for the straight scoop. I always thought vultures and buzzards were the same.

Seems some people are hard to convince.
In North America there are no buzzards. There are three vultures in the family Catharidae. Buzzard is a common name given to them. An incorrect one. Just like Robin is the common name given to the red breasted bird in the new world by the European invasive species landing on the shores. The birds are barely similar.
All other eagles, kites and the Osprey are family Accipitridae. The 'long winged hawks' are Falcons, family Falconidae.
This info in any current field guide of birds. I just happen to prefer the Nat. Geo. book, but most any up to date one will do, or even go on line.
Buzzard is the common name applied to about a dozen hawks in the genus Buteo in EUROPE. Some of them are also in North America. More confusion.
How about the naysayers document their statements for a refreshing change?
