There is a shaded area in recent pictures that seemed to just appear. Took several pictures which were fine then subsequent pictures had this shade area top left. Happens in all modes, and without lens attached. Picture enclosed.

Any diagnosis or help would be appreciated.

A little confused re. the comment "and without lens attached".
Are you using a lens hood? My initial thought was a damaged or incorrectly fitted lens hood.

It could be part of a lens hood. If you're not using one it could be that you are unconsciously getting part of your hand over the edge of the lens or worst-case scenario would be the camera's shutter is causing this issue which requires a trip to a repair shop. I'm not much help but that's all I can come up with. BTW: what camera are you shooting with when this happens? I wish you well and good shooting to you.

Looking at the image carefully, it looks like a Nikon D750.

Since the shadow is tilted it's not likely to be a shutter or mirror issue. Have you checked to see if there's something behind the mirror in front of the sensor? It would be at the bottom of the sensor. Whatever it might be, it appears to have a wavy edge.

Use the "lock mirror" menu item and look into the camera and see if there's something in there.

Does it move around if you shake the camera? If you turn the camera upside down?

Do a test: Five images with lens hood
five images without lens hood

Report back please

Go to this link and check your serial number with Nikon https://www.nikonusa.com/en/service-and-support/service-advisories/technical-service-advisory-for-users-of-the-nikon-d750.html You could qualify a free shutter replacement from Nikon if your serial number is included in the Nikon recall.

Yep, he just might qualify for a free shutter replacement from Nikon. Hopefully, this is the case. Thanks.

Change lenses first to determine if it is a lens problem.

I’m sorry. In my haste I forgot to mention-it is indeed a 750. Have-tried multiple exposures. Not a strap or hood. Tried multiple lenses. Used camera without lens and the shaded area remains.

Many Thanks to everyone for their input. In Hawaii 3 weeks in April virus willing. Need to resolve.

Off to repair. Waste no time.

Why do you think the camera is responsible? Has the light source, direction, and any interference been considered. There is no reason to consider a repair when the problem is simpler. Hope this sheds some light on the issue.

Looks like shutter issue. I've experienced similar issues. Mine was worse though. I was getting the "shadow" over the top third of the image. Got the shutter repaired and issue gone.
