Free edit Photography Programs

They, programs, are all tough to learn, some more some less. Lots of good help out there. Gimp may have a learning curve, but so what, if the tool does the job, great, stick with it. Photography is to be enjoyed.
I love using Topaz Plugins according to the ref below they will work with Gimp, tho one article said with gimp PS plugins are glitchie at times. My favorite Topaz is Adjust. Read the info and try a 30 day.

I found Image Magic Lite, a free stand alone with lots of great filters and things. It is not a trial, it is free. You can upgrade for $10 if you feel the need.

Another tip is Shrink-O-Matic, a free application so you can resize your images rather quickly. It is quite cute.

Pixel Bender
Is there a Pixel Bender that works with non adobe programs.
Where id did you download, i would love to get it. Thanks d/p
People speak highly of Gimp. I use PSP.
What you use depends some what on computer, some programs eat memory and if you do not have lots, problems can happen.

Picasa was never available for Macs until the Intel chip showed up in Macs. So, I downloaded it, but have yet found time to even try it.

Yes, indeed, I did search before I asked. Please check your file for source or correct name. Go to My computer, main drive usually C:, then to "program files" and find the program. Or do a search on your computer and were does it come up. Then find out the company or name. The Pixbender I found is for Adobe CS only

There are alot of free 30 day trials. Like lightroom. Or as others have suggested google free programs. Keep in mind they take time to learn. Photoshop is not just a try and go

Again you do not need Adobe Photoshop. That program is way to expensive for the normal camera user and hobyist.
Buy the Adobe Photo Element 9 for a price below the $100.
This program has at least 80% of the photoshop features, even hdr. And element 9 is better than all other free and/or cheaper ones. If you spent a few $1000 for camera and lenses then is element 9 cheap. I really do not understand you people.

Ronny, I agree. PSE 10 will probably change your 80% up another 5% the remaining 15% useless to most. Reality is that buy a system and learn the tools and you have a big investment, your brain and hours of learning; SO BUY ONE AND STICK WITH IT.
Changing systems is difficult and generally a worthless investment of learning time/energy. What a fiasco MSWord 07 Ribbon is to many and me!! I will stick with 03 for ever because I know the menu. Perhaps Ribbon is better but so-what, likewise, stick with familiar menus, be it PS, PSP etc. (In fairness, I should not leave out Serif X-4 that I purchased on full rebate!!!) If PS came out with a Ribbon Menu and did not allow old style, they would lose a big following.
For those concerned with $$; usually the many Point-Shoot/NewB guys, they may like to consider PSP. Corel's PSP X3 Ultra, is only $30 (on special) direct from Corel and does most every thing that PS-CS does and Ultra comes with many plugins. Another advantage to PSP X-3 is the automatic-indexing to tool-in-use Help is on the left margin for newB's leading-by-the hand (OK,me too sometimes!). GOOD HELP SYSTEM IS VERY IMPORTANT. PSE goes on line for help and muddies into lists and then further muddies with different versions of PSE.
The $50 difference in PSE and PSP can be used for buying TopazLab's Adjust that turns PSE or PSP into magic. Ronny, have you tried Topaz Adjust?

No I have not tried Topaz. And until joining this listz I have never heard about the program. Maybe because I am happy with what I have. Is Topaz a program on its own or part of another program? What does it better than the adobe photo program?
Before I start using Photo Element 9, I had another small easy to use software as part of office 2003 and is called Picture-It. I still have the version 7, but microsoft has cancelled this program. I do not know what comes with office 2010. I also use office 2003 and hesitate to buy the 2010 program because of the changes.
One more item that I really like from Element 9 is reducing the pixels of pictures in one shot. Example: A couple month ago the pro bike tour through California also crossed my home town Glendora. I took more than 300 pictures. Many people in Glendora, even the major of the city, were asking for some copies. The pictures I took were 3888x2592 pxls, way to big. I reduced them in one shot to 1800x1200 pxls and added them to a website for any person to download/copy the one they like. After one month I removed them from the site. I just did another event in Glendora called Flashback as a marketing tool for my Real Estate Broker. It will remain there until the end of this month and if you want to see these pictures, go to www.SouthlandProperties.net and click/open the button pictures with the old 1953 MG British sportscar.

Alas, Ronny, Look up FastStone Resize. Free program, will do batch processing. It will increase or decrease size, dpi, pxls, add copyrite and jump over tall building in a single bound. I think the free "topaz Fusion" allows for standalone otherwise, you use it as a plugin for PSP, PS and prob others.
