Will Photos from Apple Aperture open in Apple Photos?

I have been using Lr now for many years. However, I started on Apple Aperture, and have thousands of photos from Aperture on an external hard drive. Aperture is not supported by the Catalina operating system. Does any one know if my Aperture photos will open in Apple Photos? If not, is there another way I can access them? Yes, I know I could have/should have transferred them to Lr years ago, but I didn't. So, lets not go there please. Thanks.

Yes the transfer was easy although the dates of my folders were all wrong at first & I thought I was going to change each one of many hundreds manually, but to my surprise when I opened Photos next time the dates were correct

Thanks! What do I do? Plug in my Aperture hard drive and open photos and click get started? Do I highlight specific folders or just let it do its thing?

You can even just point to your aperture catalog directly from photos by going to the menu bar and choose open new catalog (or library which I think is what apple calls catalogs)

Aperture had two options: embedded and referenced. If you chose embedded I believe you have difficulties. Referenced should work fine.

I did the following:
(1) Make a local backup of my ApertureLib
(2) Select and convert the Aperture_Lib to Photos_Aperture_Lib and verify it worked
(3) Moved it to my Legacy HardDrive & verify it worked
(4) Delete the local backup of the Aperture Lib (there are other backups on my backup drives).

Thanks to all who responded. I wound up calling Apple and was fortunate enough to be connect to an outstanding tech. He walked me through everything. He even called me back the next day to make sure the next step went according to plan. Great support!
