From your avatar, I guess you will want to skip the Canon vs Nikon vs Sony threads.

Hahahaha! Think I should change it?

Not if it works for you.

btw - My avatar is of our cat Magic, who died of lymphoma 8-1/2 years ago. When I first joined here I used a different photo of her, but I decided that a less aggressive looking one would work better.

Oh Linda, I am so very sorry that I repeated myself. My memory power is not nearly as "supernatural" as yours, and I did not remember posting that. I humbly beg you to forgive me, and thank you for putting me in my place. I will know better next time, and will strive to please you in all aspects of my being!

Hmmmm “next time”? Thought you were quitting UHH.

WOW! What is happening here?. . . . Can we not chill it a bit? I am a newcomer to UHH and thought I had finally found a place for helpful photography information and constructive exchange of ideas. Let's be sensible and keep it cool, remembering that an online forum is a fertile ground for misunderstanding and misinterpretations. There is no body language, tone of voice, or any other helpful element of human communication. It is definitely not the best place for people with thin skins.

UHH has a significant proportion of aging people, particularly retired men who are accustomed to having positions of respect and authority and now have suddenly been put out to pasture and deprived of the status they once enjoyed. They now find themselves at loose ends, useless, slowing down physically, and often in pain. They may not be as mentally sharp as they once were, and they can become angry, bitter and resentful.

Well, at least that describes me.

Mike

You don't want to have control over the RAW file in the camera... you may want to modify it, outside the camera, but maintain the original, 'best' data.

Dik

"It is true that the user has some control over jpg in processing, but less control than the user would have over the raw file."

To clarify, the user has some control over the jpg in processing.
But the user has more control over the raw file in processing.

All this does not mean the raw file is better. It is better under some conditions. The jpg has some advantages under other conditions.

Are you saying that your 1st AV had an aggressive look? . . . . hmmmm . . . . food for thought . . . maybe I should remove "Nikon" to calm the nerves of the Canon guys?

I'm told I should be more understanding because you are dealing with "a lot of pain."

Guess what, so are many folks on UHH. You choose who you want to be online. And you choose how to respond to those who agitate you. Wishing you better days ahead.

Sorry I cannot detect any of the symptoms you describe in your post. So, perhaps the conclusion of your self-analysis is a little premature?

Yes, I am retired.

No, I had little authority in working life, and I have less anger than when I was younger.

In the Age of Film, I shot mostly Kodachrome, and adjusted my shooting for the automation which finished my work.

Today I mostly shoot for JPEG, and still have the most control ever.

Most of the time I ignore those who do not understand as I do.

These are jpegs from a cellphone. No raw in sight. The only jpegs I ever shoot these days, only because I can't be bothered with the nonsense of dealing with heic files and other garbage.
