I have been shooting in raw for quite some time now, but lately, I switched to JPEG, and I don't think I will be going back to raw. My photos seem to be crisper, and much colorful. I cannot duplicate that rich color in shooting raw. Plus, there is much less post processing. Here are several photos I took today, the only post processing was to crop for better perspective.

Your originally posted statement is a statement of fact, embodying no question.
The fact is your statement of your personally held opinion.

What, in Heaven’s name, has engendered all this discussion?

You could just as well have stated:
“I used a red camera strap for some time, but then switched to a black camera strap and I like the images I get with the black camera strap and I will not be going back to the red strap.”

You have stated the fact of your opinion.

Somehow a bunch of folks have assumed that you wanted an evaluation of the process by which you arrived at your opinion. Nothing in your thread title or statement indicates any such desire on your part.
Had you expressed doubts about your doubts, then THAT could reasonably have engendered the sort of seemingly endless exchanges of comments found in the many pages of the rest of your thread... including my brief offering. From your original statement, however, it now occurs to me that you likely couldn’t care less about all that has followed.

Right?

Facts are facts, including your statement of fact concerning your personal opinion!
Opinions are debatable. Facts aren’t.

Just as it is a fact that the thought I’ve expressed above occurred to me and that I thus neither expect nor desire discussion thereupon.

Come to think of it, all this is likely the result of the side of the bed from which I arose this morning (fact).

I hope you have great day! (fact)

Dave

If you have a camera that has two memory slots you can set it up to copy both a raw and a jpeg image, then when you import your images into Lightroom( I’m not sure about other systems) you can import both raw and jpeg as separate images and take your pick which one, or both, to PP

This is true.
But if he doesn't require/desire raw anymore, why do it?

My inexpensive Pentax cameras can copy both types to the one slot - which is what I do in the rare case that I cannot work with the JPEG.

Think of it this way -- Your in-camera processing - AKA Jpeg - Has provided you with a color templet -- Which you now can attempt to emulate when you go back to shooing via RAW !!

Shooting in JPEG is nothing to be ashamed of, but do it in private and wash your hands afterwards.

Your originally posted statement is a statement of... (show quote)

I learned lots in my first weeks here - one of them being that every one thinks s/he can do better.

I posted a photo I had scanned from a slide - then compared the colors to the slide. I was told that the scene was too blue; yes it was a 'blue' day here - a cloudy day in April - and I wanted to keep that. I was told that the skin was too pink; yes, the girls were playing soccer, and by mid-game their skin was pinker than normal, and I wanted to keep that also.

And you should also......

If I thought like they do, I wouldn't be me.

I think it is time we all accept the fact that jradose is perfectly happy, and there is nothing we can say or do that will change that, try as we may.

I heard that it makes you go blind. Or is this just another old wives tale like Canon is better than Nikon?

It makes you wonder if ADMIN is behind some of them when it's a little slow on here.

Not often. The last time was when I got a D810 after owning a couple of D800s. I found it frustrating and confining to get consistently good results with the camera's jpegs. Which is another reason I don't use Nikon's raw conversion software. It is a carbon copy of the camera's settings. If I want to do more, and I almost always do, I reach for the other go to packages I have on my computer - Lr, Ps, Capture 1, On1 Raw, DXO Photolab 2.

Do you shoot raw?

I do RAW+fine JPG. Not a prob for me as I shoot tens not hundreds of pics. i learnt to process RAWs with Serif's PhotoPlus up to X8 (now a legacy app) and eventually moved on to Affinity. If I wish to do much with layers and filters I still like PhotoPlus - but that is down to familiarity. Nowadays I use just one camera - Panasonic GX8 and 3 Panasonic lenses. I do Architecture, Bridges and Landscapes and other subjects occasionally - so perhaps RAW is just less important to me. I have recently become interested in Animals.

There is really no need for these constant testimonials touting one way as superior to the other since the decision should be based on personal interests, needs and desires.

And you can do both!

And you can switch at any time! It's always open season on choosing whether to shoot raw 😀 👍
