I am Dorothy (dag984) and have a Canon Rebel t5i . I am trying to learn how to set manual settings. I have difficulty remembering each one and when to increase or decrease the setting. I want to understand what I am doing and not just set the numbers, but need any help all of you might be able to give me. Thank you for all these wonderful photos!

Welcome to the HOG!
BTW nothing wrong with using Av or Tv until you get used to things, in fact you may be happy with them, most of us do not drive standard transmission cars anymore!

Welcome to the hog. After full auto , try the aperture mode & only change the aperture settings( aperture is the size of the opening inside the lens). See how it affects the photo's look. Take it slow, Once you get the hang of something , you can try something new. Menu settings, same thing. Read the manual as many times as needed. I have owned my camera for almost 4 years & still go to the manual if needed. A good read for beginners is Bryan Peterson's , Understanding Exposure.
Remember it just about having fun, enjoy, Tom
