These icebergs were taken next to Pléneau Island on the western side of the Antarctica peninsula with a Canon 5D Mark III using an EF 24-105 IS USM lens from a moving zodiac. The shutter speed was between 1/500 and 1/1000. F-stop either f/9 or f/11. ISO either 500 or 1000. The icebergs were in an area called “iceberg graveyard” because the with lower tides, the icebergs don’t move. It was a completely amazing place.

Nature is the finest artist. Looking at the icebergs, it like looking in on a past of which we have no idea. Very nice, Base. Thanks.

Great shots Base, can you guess how big the icebergs were, THe boat looked like a needle in a haystack or a barn.

Great shots! How was the wildlife viewing?
I was there in January and filled a couple of memory cards with similarly amazing images. It was hard to estimate the size of the icebergs. My guess was between 20 to 25 stories high for some of them. Perhaps even more. A particularly huge one seemed to take forever to pass. Great memories!

DebAnn, the colors were amazing and the shapes looked like an art studio. Thanks for your post.

Photoartist, going to Antarctica and seeing God's raw beauty was a once-in-a-life experience for us; although we met several people who have been there multiple times.

p.s. I believe that it was warmer in Antarctica on New Year's Eve when I took the pictures than it was in Michigan.

Foggypreacher, your reaction is spot on. I'll be posting pics of South Georgia Island and various shots of the Antarctica peninsula in the days ahead. Each location lets reinforces what nature looks like without human inhabitants. Really amazing.

Thanks for your post.
