It was bound to happen and was only a matter of time. You don't get something for nothing in this world. Subscription might be next, who knows?

But it's not "something for nothing" It's another example of software giants screwing the peasants.
Well, it sounds better than what Adobe has.

I can't explain it and I predict it will make a "Chinese Fire Drill" look like a well trained marching band. I own and use many of their products and wish them nothing but GOOD LUCK; they're going to need it.
Could you please explain.I love Topaz filters but I haven’t read anything about them lately!🤔

A link and - a bit later - a synopsis are provided further down the thread on page 1.

Aren't they giants because we buy their products? Don't we
continue to buy their products because we find them of value to our interests and needs?
There is still plenty of free stuff on the internet if you don't want to pay.
The Devil wouldn't buy our empty soul. He sets up a subscription.

Actually the devil is buying souls; the current price is 25 cents/soul ... it's a buyers market!
It makes sense for companies to give away updates but to charge for upgrades. That seems to be standard practice.
Topaz has to survive. They produce a quailty product and improvements are good. Photoshop and Lightroom are still industry standards but companies like Topaz, On1 and others keep Adobe moving forward for our benefit. Cut them some slack.

Completely agree. It's pretty inexpensive software, and for me, as with others maybe, it's just another business expense. Paying for updates sure beats the company going out of business.

Agreed, Linda! A corporation provides a quality product or service, provides it better and more efficiently than others, provides it at a better price point than others, the product is more usable and valuable to the consumer than others, people love it and buy a lot of it, the company grows to be a huge successful corporation based on providing folks what they want, and now they're the bad guys? Big and successful does not automatically carry with it a branding of oppression...

It's not about paying - it's about fair do's.
Those who continue to buy have often got themselves trapped, as is the case here.
