Nobody has mentioned a series of scams directed toward photographers and they have worked for the scammers unfortunately! You'll get an email from somebody who claims to have seen your wonderful work on the net. He needs you to cover a family gathering, wedding etc. He wants a quote, then a check for much more is sent, but you are supposed to send most the money to the cake decorator, the venue, or wedding planner. So you deposit a bogus check and then write your company check to the wedding planner for much of that money. Early on, I played his game, but he had a church, the bank was legit too. We called the bank as I was curious of the paper finish. The lady at the bank, "oh your only the second person to ask us about those checks" they obviously never heard of the guy! However he was extremely concerned as to why we hadn't sent the check to the wedding planner yet!

Other Hoggers have posted obvious scam emails they were sent, so I thought I would share this one from today's mail. What is very interesting, beyond the grammatical and usage errors and omissions, is the overt blatant attempt to include the recipient in an obvious fraud scheme:

The sad thing is that people are duped into believing these scams. I got a scam phone call, just recently, stating there was an arrest warrant issued in my name, because I had not paid sufficient federal income tax last year. And, that I can pay via credit card. I just hung up my phone.

Don't they usually ask for a pre-paid music card so their elevators can play some music?

There are so many different attempts to fraudulently divest people of their money that it is near impossible to list them all. My wife just yesterday received a call that her SS# was frauduently used in Texas and they needed something. She hung up the phone before they could tell her what it was all about. A couple days earlier I got a phone call that she had won 2.5 Million dollars in the Publisher's Clearing House give away and they wanted to know how they could reach her to award her earnings. I told them they could present it to her in person, just bring it to the house. The guy hung up. A few days before that I got a similar call that I had won the PCH prize of $2 million and a car. The caller, who had a very thick accent, said his name was David Green. When I said he didn't sound like a David because of his accent he hung up on me.

Sometimes I try to keep them on the line just to harrass them and keep them from bothering others. I have a lot of free time, I'm retired and I do like humor. Believe me some of these scams are really humorous to me.

Good luck with your Chevy, personally I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot stick, (my experience and opinion - dealing with cars professionally for the better part of 30 years)
The Chevy dealer must have sold your info.

I doubt dealers sell the information, I have reeived numerous calls trying to get me to extend the warranty on my vehicle. When I ask which vehicle, sometimes the caller attempts to avoid identifying one in particular but other times have named a certain vehicle which I now own or have owned. I neither confirm nor deny ownership of any vehicle, just tell them if I wanted an extension I would seek it, not wait for them to call me.

You are correct stating you've been approached by several companies, same keeps coming in my mail for the older cars I have with stupid statements like " if your car is under 200,000 miles than you should buy this service contract (it is NOT an extended warranty!), they should be very stupid to cover repairs on such old cars.
I never recommend to my customers buying any of these contracts, there are about 3 or 4 serious companies out there selling contracts, but if I ever need one, the dealership of your make is the one to buy it from and even they sometimes like to sell you a third party contract.
If you get one, read the small print very carefully and talk to a professional about it.

Jerryc41 told us all about "Call Blocker" that attaches to your house phone. You just hit #2 and hang up. It adds the caller number to a Blocked list. It comes with prepaid numbers that are known and you can add more. The one I purchased was $100. The new one is $68 on Amazon with 5000 known scammers and you can add 1500 more. I have had this unit 4 years (maybe 5) and I've only added 318 names. I'll never fill the maximum number of optional numbers. If you only have a cell phone, most have call blockers built in. The new Verizon offering (free) identifies a potential scammer. It blocks the call and you just refuse to answer it.
