I was on the shoreline of the Gulf of Mexico in Gulf Shores, AL just prior to sunset. My intentions were to shoot the Snow Moon rising in the eastern sky. It was a great weather evening and the beach was entertaining several people - as well as birds. I was close by a fisherman who was catching several fish, but not big enough to be keepers, so he was tossing them back into the ocean.
The moon was not up yet and the sun not yet set - the light was golden; as I glanced in the fisherman's direction, a Great Blue Heron had dropped by and he snagged one of the fish being tossed back. I was in a good (lucky, more probably) position to shoot the scene and I was able to document the entire sequence - from catch to final gulp. I have shot hundreds (maybe even more) images of the Great Blue, but this sequence is one of my best - not so much for the photography, but the scene that unfolded in my presence.
Hope you enjoy seeing it half as much as I did shooting it.
