I will be presenting a free class on "Understanding and choosing camera shooting modes" on February 25th in Biloxi, Ms. I have done several of classes on different topics and this time I am trying something new. I am posting a link to dropbox that will have the slides that I will use in my presentation with the hopes that it will cut down on the people attending writing as many notes and let them concentrate more on what I am saying. Each of the pages and bullet points and pictures will come up one at a time so we can discuss each one. Check it out and see what you think. Jeff Impey

The presentation can be downloaded from dropbox at the link below if you are interested in looking at it.

There shouldn't be a problem if you download it. Tried it several times without any problems. Try downloading it and let me know if it works for you.

It downloaded ok. What software do you need to read it? (I'm on Windows 7).

Not positive what presentation format you are using. Assuming you created the presentation in Keynote, you will have to provide a way for users to open the file. The .key files may be opened in MS Powerpoint but not just by double-clicking them. You have to export the presentation from |Keynote to Powerpoint format and some formatting will be lost.

If you plan to distribute the document this way to people in the class, you may want to convert it to a rich text document or some more common application so anyone can access and print it. Most home users do not have Keynote or Powerpoint ! Or just print a bunch and bring with you...

Also, Keynote is a MAC only application so only those unfortunate folks who use Apple products would be able to even get Keynote !

This is why I posted it here first. Thanks for letting me know. I will try and fix this but I am not sure how to do it. Yes this was done in keynote.

Try making it a .PDF file, (edit) or even a html document so it can be read by a web browser.

Been a while since I used Keynote but I believe there is a way using the print command to produce a print file which has the slide and a lined area to take notes. You may be able to "Print to a File" which would allow people to download and print it. Or as Richard identified, you may be able to save the file as a PDF.

I also could not open the file. I suggest you turn it into a PDF. That file format has been around so long that it's kind of the default for documents like this.

That is a good idea. At several presentations by Scott Kelby, he says at the beginning of the presentation to set aside the pen and notebook. Listen and watch. At the end, he promises (and delivers) a printed copy of the entire presentation so notes are not necessary.

Your way is cheaper and easier, but be sure to mention it at the beginning of the session.

If you are giving a class to potential photographers, they probably want to learn their complicated cameras. Based on that, I think you should remove this statement, “If you want a camera that does everything, get a point and shoot”.

Also, a set of pictures that demonstrates different apertures and different shutter speeds would be helpful.

My 2 cents worth (I miss the “cents” symbol)

It does seem that Keynote has the ability to export your presentation to PDF format and maybe HTML format. Try both and re-upload them and then ask for opinions.

If using windows (I think it should work on a MAC as well) hold the Alt key down and type 0162 . When you release the Alt key, you get ¢

I had no problem opening this document on my iPad. Plus I have the Dropbox app on my device. These two factors may be why I could open it.

I agree that you should let the participants know that they will get the presentation up front...or bring them with you so they can follow along and jot notes on appropriate pages.
