Hello,

I am not sure how selling stuff here works. If you have experience or advice I would appreciate it.

This is what I have for sale (I am consolidating my gear and decided to go solely full-frame). I am willing to sell items separately but would prefer to sell everything as a package. Basically I am looking to sell for ~half the current new price which would be about $750 according to my estimate but offers accepted. I can send photos of each item and will answer any questions. Shipping included within the US.

**************

Sony Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera with kit zoom + 3 other lenses.

Shutter count less than 1500. Very clean. Minor scuffs on LCD screen. Kit lens is PZ 16-50 mm.

(1) Original box. Missing strap and original AC adapter.

(2) 2 batteries (1 original) + charger.

(3) Charging cable (not original).

(4) Velo wired remote (thrown in for free if you purchase everything).

(5) SmallRig A6000 cage (Bottom screw a bit worn) (thrown in for free if you purchase everything).

Lenses:

(1) E-mount Tamron 18-200 mm f3.5 - 6.3 Di III VC zoom + UV filter + original box + lens pouch (not original). Very good-to-excellent condition.

(2) E-mount Sony 50 mm f/1.8 OSS lens + UV filter + lens hood + original box. Excellent condition.

(3) E-mount Rokinon 12 mm f/2 + lens hood. Excellent condition.

OK, I will do. I am mainly asking about how to ensure that any transaction is legitimate.

dear david,
I do not pretend to be an expert in photography, selling, buying, or marketing used equipment, but I have a few suggestions.

1. Yes, as already recommended, DO include photos of each item you’re selling in this package.

2. Please review MY edited version of your initial post. Note that I am assuming that you’ll be posting it here on the Hog, at the very least. No, of course my way of presenting the information is not the only way.

NOTE that the manufacturer is far more important to show first when itemizing you’re lenses, certainly when compared to what mount the lens is.

I also moved your listing of the kit lens to accompany the other lenses, because that’s how, I believe, most buyers would think.

Notice that since you already enumerated the non-lens items, I changed the symbol preceding each lens. Why do you think I did that? (See my last point as an example why I did so.)

The order in which you itemize the lenses is up to you.

3. I wouldn’t expect buyers to know off the top of their respective heads what the Aperture Range or Filter Diameter for each lens is, so I suggest you provide it; make it EASY for the buyer to know what you’re offering.

4. You misspelled Vello.

5. I own a number of Sony cameras and various brands of batteries ... not all battery brands are good! So I recommend you include the brand of the other(“not original") battery.

6. I am completely unfamiliar with item 5. I recommend you show a photo of it. (HAD you enumerated this item as, say, #3, it would be confusing for a buyer to simply refer to it as item 5, since your original format enumerated twice. Of course, I admit that for those who can type quickly, my "issue" might be moot as they might not identify it by its number. 🤔)

Hope this helps you.

Wish I had read this first. If you’re not a retailer and are just selling this out of your home, unfortunately (at least to my knowledge,) there will be an Element of TRUST!!

Someone is going to have to trust that you’ll ship the item ONCE the payment you receive clears the bank. I actually did purchase a used Sony A65 camera from another Hog a few years ago and it still works.

Don’t forget to determine the weight of the package containing your gear all safely packed so that you can determine shipping costs. Research shipping insurance cost, too.

Legitimate transaction, eh? For what it’s worth, I have been BURNED by PayPal more than once in different years. I simply refuse to have anything to do with them and walk away whenever it is touted as the ONLY accepted form of payment!

Good luck!

You could call Adorama, B&H or KEH, all are
reputable and, they buy used gear.

I have made both purchases and sales here. No problems either way... yet. Always a risk. But the seller is in the driver's seat, being able to require payment before shipping.

As for your pricing, if you're asking, I listed a similar Sony A6000 package here - and various other places - recently, only briefly, for considerably less money. I ended up trading it in at a local store for even less value, but I picked up a Sony RX100 VI that I thought was similarly under-priced, so I didn't feel too bad about it. I've also recently sold some items to KEH.com and traded some to MPB.com, and felt they were OK deals.

To be honest, I had picked up the A6000 used and at a crazy low price. I was enjoying it and would have happily kept it, but I found myself lusting after better glass for it. I recognized the fever for what it was, having not long ago bought an EOS R (while still hanging onto an old T6s bought used) and had begun the Sacred Glass Chase. I got rid of the A6000 only to stop halt the new direction of that disease.

PS: I already miss the compactness of the A6000... about as much as the fine bird photos I used to get with the Lumix GX85, which I traded in on the EOS R. -sigh-

One more thing, david, which you may already have thought of: review the other recent listings in this section and see if any of the sellers discuss how they want the transaction to be handled.

I could be interested in the 18-200 if you decide to sell separately. Let me know via pm.

Don’t forget MPB, they buy and usually offer more that A, B&H, and KEH. I’ve sold to them and all transactions were hassle free and fast.

Between the 2, I've found KEH offers more, but you can put in your list to both to get comparison quotes. I suspect it depends upon what they have and feel they can most easily sell at that given time.

I think you’re spot on, since I’ve always gotten 8-10% more with MPH. Supply and demand.....
