My Nikkor 200-500 telezoom is in the shop...the zoom mechanism got stuck...so while I'm waiting for its return, I've been using a kit lens, Nikkor 18-200mm to at least record some of the wildlife I see in my nearly daily jaunts. Here are a few shots that I feel lucky to have caught with less focal length. The Long-eared Owl was sleeping at mid-afternoon about 10-12 feet off the ground in an old eucalyptus tree. Open the download to find its well hidden head. It was hidden deep in the "V" of a branch with the main trunk. The Harrier was circling overhead, flying perhaps 100 yds away then circling back...right overhead. I was lucky to capture a series of shots and am pleased with the resolution and sharpness. Usually I've not been lucky enough to have them circle back overhead. Hope you enjoy them.

Very nice. Let us know when you get your 200-500 back. I'm saving for one.

Thanks, Bob. I've had this one for about 2 years and have enjoyed the extra reach very much. It took a while to start getting the images out of it that I expected. It should be returned in the next week to 10 days. Have a nice Super Bowl Sunday. jack

Good shots. The 18-200 is an interesting lens. Overall it is fairly sharp. Much sharper than the 18-300.

Excellent downloads, Jak and I probably would not have spotted the owl!

I've taken this lens on several trips and find that it is a very good travel lens. It's wide enough for landscapes and architecture and fairly long. I often prefer my iPhone photos taken within museums and historic buildings, in part because no one hassles me and in part because the iPhoto handles moderately low light beautifully. Thanks for the kind words. jack

Corky, it's always nice to hear from you. I would not have found the owl if two other observers weren't already looking at it...one a photographer and the other a birder. Even when they told me what to look for, I missed it for several minutes. The owl was buried pretty deep in the crook of the tree and its markings blended in so well. Thanks for viewing these. Your comments are always welcome. jak

Thanks, Jak and also always nice to hear from you. I'm kind of running behind as my wife Ellen missed the last step while descending from upstairs and took quite a blow to her head and also fractured her right wrist. Thank goodness tests showed no internal bleeding in her head injury but her wrist and arm are now temporarily restrained and if everything looks ok on Friday a cast will be placed just below the elbow on her arm and wrist for six weeks. Take care, Corky

Oh, Corky, I’m so sorry to hear of your wife’s tragic fall. Hopefully she will heal quickly and well. I know you will take good care of her. I know what that’s like. My beloved fiancé died of cancer nearly 2 years ago. I took care of her throughout her illness and was devastated to lose her, but the time we spent together during her illness will be remembered as a special time of closeness and warmth. Value any extra time you get to spend together because of this accident. I’m still taking Nancy’s parents to dinner every Monday night. Her father, 96 years old, broke his hip shortly after breaking a bone in his left shoulder, so it’s been a long healing process. Meanwhile, Nancy’s mother, 92 years of age, suffers from arthritis and neuropathy that makes it very difficult for her to walk. They like to get out of the house for dinner and I enjoy their kindness and company. It’s good that I can continue to be a part of their life and help them in their later years. I’ll be getting there too soon myself. Luckily, my siblings are all alive, and Nancy was kind enough to share her extensive family with me. She had two kids, both married, and her son has two children who treat me as their grandfather even though Nancy and I didn’t get married. My own son and his wife are expecting a son in early July, so I have lots to live for and enjoy. Make life good! jak

Thanks, Jak and Ellen will have the temporary cast removed and if everything seems to be ok and a hard cast applied tomorrow which will remain on for six weeks after which she will need some therapy but thankful that it wasn't worse. I'm very sorry about Nancy's parents and think it's wonderful that you can assist them and great that you have been accepted into their extended family. I have thought of you often after Nancy's passing and so glad that things are going ok. Congrats on very soon becoming a new Grandfather and know that all are looking forward to the big event. Ellen seems to be doing ok so far although she was a little under the weather yesterday, although her biggest problem may be surviving my cooking! Take care. Corky
