What a paranoid world we live in today. Great diabolical money-saving scam/plot by some magazine editor, Send a harmless looking woman on a trip with an inferior camera to shoot birds. Look for a kind-looking, sucker with a DSLR, who is obviously an amateur. Ask for his photos under the cover story of your camera crapped out. Pulitzer, here we come!

I share your view. There seems to be a number of VERY IMPORTANT PEOPLE responding to this question.

How about simply Sorry No. I can't imagine even asking for that.

I was on an OAT trip to China shooting with a Canon Power Shot Pro 6mp. One other person in our group was shooting with a Nikon DSLR. The tour took us to an undeveloped part of the Great Wall. When we got home I found that the memory card I used for the Great Wall photos had failed. I emailed the guy with the Nikon and asked if he could send me his photos of the Great Wall. He did. I would never present them as my own, nor post them. They're just for my memories.

I have no problem whatsoever giving photos to family or friends. Complete strangers asking me to download all of my photos? If you have no problem with this be my guest. If she had asked if he could send a few that she likes, I guess that's OK. But all of his photos? Sorry, call me paranoid. But I wouldn't do it. That's just me

Not paranoid, just cautious

If you are an amateur photographer, I would do this. Be sure your camera places the copyright info into the Exif. If you are a professional, I might share some images that bear your mark on the photos and license for personal use only.

The memory card would have to be taken from my cold dead fingers.

I'd get her email address and use dropbox to send her the photos. I'd send the RAW files.

1000??? think you got enough?

Recently, while on a cruise, I did a shore excursion to visit a penguin colony on the Falkland Islands. We were a van of 4 people. Three people were taking photographs. One person was using a cellphone camera. One women had a point-and-shoot camera. I was using my Nikon D500 with a 300mm zoom lens with a monopod.

At the top of the hill was the penguin breeding area where the newly hatched chicks were waiting for their parents to return with food. The colony consisted of Gentoo, Magellan and King ePenguins. The parents had to walk (waddle) about 1/2 mile from the water to the nesting area to give their chicks food.

That day I took over 1000 exposures of the chicks, their parents making the 1/2 mile trek from the ocean and the parents feeding them.

A few days later the women with the point and shoot camera tells me there was a problem with her camera and would I give her my photos. She asked me to give her my memory cards so she can copy them.

What would you do?
1) First question - Would you share your photos?
2) Do you tell her you do not share your photos.
3) Do you give her your memory card. [probably/definitely not]
4) Do you ask her for a memory card and you copy your photos for her [assuming you have a computer.]
5) Do you tell her they are RAW files and there is nothing she can do with them.
6) Do you tell her my memory cards are XQD which need a special card reader.
7) Tell her next time to buy a better camera.
8) Check your setting before staring out on an important photo assignment.
9) Take a couple of test shots and analyze them before staring out on an important photo assignment.

But the real first question is “Would you share your photos?”

I would not. You might just find your pictures being published in someone else's name. Better safe than sorry.

Depends on a couple of things:
1. What did she look like.
2. What would she share with you.

I went to Australia in 2017. We went on a group walking tour to see some of the local wildlife near Melbourne. The group leader said her boss was always looking for good photos for brochures. I got her mailing address and sent her a CD with about a dozen of my better, not best, photos on it. A guy from Canada showed some interest so I sent him a copy of the CD. These were JPEGS at reduced resolution and were very appreciated by both parties. But NO, no one gets my memory cards, ever.

It's happened to me. I told the person that I was shooting raw and the images on my card would not work for her. I then told her that I always write picture stories of all my trips and send them to the people I traveled with. I also send personal pictures of any of the individuals to that individual along with some group shots. I got a great response to that answer and we're still friends.
