The impact is strong because your proposed concept is incredibly well fulfilled by the perspective you chose to image it! IMO no better composition could have been arranged. That ”corridor of 5he present” leading away to the right with its “window views” between 5he trees on the left side of the corridor to the left into the past is a most effective trope!
I agree with RG that the graveyard could be better defined with a touch more local contrast.
IMO the B&W can be further d3veloped more eff3ctively than can the color version.

surreal - I like it a lot. For me it started about the massive dark trees - that is where I began. And then the bright splash of light, and Then, and only then do I see the stones and the discovery hits me hard. I like Linda's description of magical/spiritual and in turn it leads to a blinding eternal.

We are all different and we all process images internally in a different way - definitely one shoe does not fit all.

If you were seeking a different yet similar feel, perhaps get the stones to be less blown out and replace the blinding eternal with a foggy/spooky duller mystery - but I kind of like it the way you did it.
