Is there a theme to the contest? If not I like 4 and 5 for different reasons.

I do like the last one. Mostly because the others are rather ordinary, with the next to the last one (4) being slightly less ordinary than those before it. It also has some very nice compositional qualities. The last one is more unique due to the less prevalent nature of night photos. Most photos are taken during the day for contests. The last one has a good deal of tonality and light/shadow areas that are visually interesting.

I would not say the others are ordinary, but I agree that the last one is most interesting to me--it would depend on what the actual print looks like. The full range of b/w is not really captured on a video screen, but it looks like you may have really rich blacks, really white whites, and a full scale between, which on paper can be stunning. The darkness adds mystery or intrigue to the scene. They are all good photographs. You have a fine eye for framing and aiming.

The first two catch the eye because of the looming weird things--disturbing but publishable for that.

When a scenic view is viewed smallish, I think it grabs us only if there is some bold element in it, but in a big print the view itself can be bold. Sometimes I think the great landscape photographers developed the bold elements in the darkroom rather than by composition alone, ideally without showing off or overdoing it. The function of pictures as mementos is not to be belittled, but of course there is a certain privacy in that.

Which one do you like? If this is a competition don't submit the first one until you straighten the horizontal an vertical. Personally, I like the last one.

Thanks. It’s an open theme, separate categories for color and B&W/monochrome.

Thanks for your thoughts, Charles. 2and 3 aren’t my personal favorites, but a lot of friend and family liked them, so I included them to make sure I wasn’t overlooking something/too close to my own work. I’m grateful for everyone’s feedback and hope that you enjoyed looking at my captures.

#4 is visally better than the three that preceded it but has no defined subject to serve as a center of interest. The leading line is great and it has a certain winter pastoral feel to the photo but it leads my eye straight out of the photo at the top of the frame. #5 has a defined subject and the other things in the photo cause my eye to go straight to the chandelier. The afore mentioned "other things" do not detract from the subject nor compete with it for the viewer's attention. They complement the subject by setting the stage for it

For these reasons , I would vote for #5. Good luck in the club competition.
