Am spending two weeks in the British Virgin Islands on a sailboat. I don't want to take my "good" Sony camera and lenses as we'll be traveling light and dingying to shore daily. Any suggestions for a point and shoot camera between $100-$300? Thanks in advance!

Great Fuji camera for the price and waterproof.

With a point and shoot you will have a slight delay in the time you squeeze and the picture is taken. Be aware of this for moving objects. The delay is due to the point and shoot focusing time. Some are better than others. Have fun.

We sailed c Sunsail a few times ten years ago. Now too stiff and weak to do that any more.
We used an online grocery service through a grocery store in RoadTown. They’d ask when we were boarding and would deliver an hour later.
The Baths, Sopers Hole, warm, short afternoon rain showers, snorkeling, $25/night for an anchor buoy. One night we were late and had to set our own anchors near Foxy’s. The anchor dragged all night. Come morning we were 100 yards closer to the next boat than when we started out.
Thanks for dredging up those fond memories.

What camera features are important and maybe not so important to you? Hot shoe, viewfinder, RAW output, video functions, body size, etc. There are many things to consider when selecting a camera in that price range. There are plenty of "good" cameras, but you will also want a camera that is right for what you want it to do. A used camera may also be something worth considering.

You really do need to talk about functionality needed before anyone can make informed suggestions.

If you just want to point and then shoot, no serious motion involved, no zooming, I would just take any old smart phone. They quickly drove most P&S cameras to oblivion for a good reason - a smart phone can take reasonable photos and then deliver them to the cloud, from whence they can be delivered anywhere.

Canon "G" series cameras are a good choice or the Fujifilm "X" series but they might be a little more than your willing to spend. Good luck.

How about a nice bridge camera with similar controls to your "good" Sony:

SONY CYBER-SHOT DSC-HX400V DIGITAL CAMERA, BLACK {20.4 M/P}

KEH has an "excellent" one for $218.

I have a very nice HX-200V from KEH that I use when I don't want to lug my A58 and lenses around. Just a thought.

Rephrase your quistion and use Compact Cameras. Point and Shoot are often less than $100 and not worth that.

Panasonic and Sony have changed models multi times and the older ones are still great superzooms with many features such as 4K video to still capturing single frames at 8 mbites .. and stills at 20 mbites. My Panasonic TZ100 was replace by the TZ200 so the price dropped significantly. I chose the TZ100 because of the long reach. $450 on Amazon

Your good Sony camera, I'm certain takes photos in JPEG and RAW. Inexpensive point and shoot cameras, don't always shoot RAW, such as the Nikon P900, which is not a inexpensive Bridge camera. Do you want both a viewfinder and LCD screen? How many megapixels do you want? I own a 16 megapixels Nikon Bridge camera, that I bought new, as a backup to my Nikon DSLR, 4 years ago. It has no viewfinder, and shoots only JPEG. One advantage, is that it has a maximum focal range to 855mm. A point and shoot can also be a compact or pocket camera.

Get Olympus Tough, TG5 or TG6. Waterproof to 50? ft, good for snorkeling, great macro mode, sharp photos.

Olympus Tough TG6! Waterproof, can be used under water to 50 feet, dust proof, can take a modest drop, can be sat on. B&H has them for $379 so a tad out of your range but I think worth it! You might be able to find a Tough TG5.
