Don't bother with Pharump, but Ash Meadows is an interesting place to wander around for a few hours. The pools containing the beautiful blue pupfish would benefit from a polarizing filter and the history of the place is surprising. The last time we were in Pharump, the owner of a chain of brothels was running for some political office and had his campaign signs outside the brothels.

This will be our 2nd time at Spring Mountain and my shots from the first session are hard to beat but I am dedicating some hours to capturing new/updated shots. I was tempted to purchase the staff photographer's thumb drive, but after viewing and being informed of the price, I declined because IMHO mine were better. I am definitely thinking of the Winery for dining one night. Thanks for your help. By the way, what Vette are you driving?

Thanks for the information. I will definitely throw in a CPL for pupfish shots. Although it is desert, it sure looks interesting with the varied landscape of clear blue pools next to the desert sand. I've done some reading the last two days on Ash Meadows and you are right - what an interesting history. If I brought my GoPro could I stick it in the water for fish photos?

Skip the camera and go to Front Sight while in Pahrump. Great place to learn how to handle a pistol, safely.
That would be fun, but flying with a hand gun is difficult, at best. I do hold a concealed weapons permit from the State of Florida but hope I never have to use it.
... I'm sure your shots were better .... my vette is a 2014 Z51 w/M7. Any thoughts on trading up to a new C8?

My husband's daily driver (which freaks out most vette owners) is a 2016 C7 Z51 manual shark grey coupe. No, not getting a C8, but we have 3 friends whose orders are in. Britt is currently rebuilding/refurbishing a 1995 NA Miata with hopes of rally racing. Oh, you boys and your toys.
You could always find out where the Martians landed in Parhump. HI HI

Well... he's still 'residing' there.
No, no, that is a conspiracy theory perpetrated by AM radio rebroadcasts.

I don't know if they would let you put a GoPro in the water, but you might get some nice images.

He died recently. Ash Meadows used to be a cathouse May still be for all I know.
I know...he's buried in Pahrump.
I found Ash Meadows interesting and challenging. The main attraction there are the endangered Pupfish. They are very difficult to see, and a real challenge to photograph. I did not get a good picture of them, but my son did. From there, if you catch Highway 127 south to Death Valley Junction, you will find the Historic Amargosa Opera House. A tour is great and if you are there on a Friday night, you can attend a performance, we did. Further south across the Old Spanish Trail is the China Date Ranch that has wonderful photo opportunities. If you want to see some of my pictures from that area, message me.
