Some additional photos from my year in Thailand.
The same year that I enlisted in the Army. Were you in the service when these were taken?
Chief. I was stationed in Bangkok in 68 and 69 while I was in the army. The temples are so beautiful and the picture you captured of one proves my point. Also the people were very nice and cordial. Bangkok was an R&R Center. I was stationed in a field Hospital although it was in a permanent building. We lived in a hotel, got Billet pay and most surprising of all combat pay. Talked with a lot of guys on R&R from Nam. These guys went through hell when they got back they got spat on and called baby killers.. 58000 guys died for nothing. My heart hangs heavy when I think about it.
Yes, I was in the Air Force at U Tapao. Total of 29 years between active duty and the reserves. Spent a few days in Bangkok. Great place at the time. I also thought the Thai people were great. I also experienced the spitting on while walking down the streets of San Francisco in uniform. Glad things have changed for those who serve today.
Very interesting photos! I was assigned a year in Thailand in 68 but the orders were switched to 18 months in Okinawa. I always wondered what I missed when I see photos from there.

These are really great photos from that era. I love the Far East and was there in '68 myself in Okinawa & Japan and really enjoyed the people and their culture.
Nice set! 👍👍👍
In 1967, I was the Avionics Officer on the USS Constellation (CVA-64). But now I live in Bangkok! Life is unpredictable. 🙂
