No, you don't have to have an expensive lens to capture a beautiful shot. You did just fine and produced a magnificent shot.

You are sure right about the artist. We can only look with awe at his wonders. The photo is an amazing capture of it, the only thing that could possibly improve it would be to get rid of the can or buoy in the lower right of the frame. Looks out of place amid the rest of the beauty.

Thanks and interesting observation. I thought about it but this particular lake is located in a golf community. The lake is used for model yacht racing. If you look closely you’ll see about 4 or 5 more buoys. My decision to leave it in was based on showing the calmness of the water. While the foreground of the lake looks like water ripples, it’s actually the reflection of the sky. I just thought it was an important part of the composition to leave it in. This was a sunrise. Thanks for checking it out and your comment.

Very nice. Especially using a much-maligned lens.

Thanks Bob. Always interested in your observations and comments. Despite its flaws, I got a good capture with it. No time to run back and get one of my 2.8’s.

A $1200 dollar lens? Nice pic.

Thanks for looking. This lens is around $800-$900 new. You can find them used or refurbished around $660.

Most sunset shots I see on here are somewhat ho hum. Been there done that. That shot is VERY IMPRESSIVE. Great shot.

Thanks. Really appreciate the positive comment. BTW, it was a sunrise. About 7AM in SW Florida.
