I watched an online training video where the photographer took pictures and they were immediately available for viewing on his laptop. Does anyone have any recommendations on a good wifi method to do that?

The only problem I personally have with mine Eye-Fi is that it must be in a network to transfer images to my laptop or iPad (which I can do at home). I am currently looking for a way too transfer digital images from my camera to my laptop or iPad when I am not near a network (up in the mountains or by a stream). If you discover a way let me know.

I was thinking about the wifi thing also, wireless transmitting to my laptop. I looked it up on Amazon and read the 1-star reviews. Think I'll wait till all the bugs are out. There are too many to list here.

Setting up Eye-Fi Direct Mode with a computer

I dont know whether this will help or not as I have not tried it, but it seems as long as there is no other wireless network available (in the mountains) it should connect to the computer, according to eyefi support page.

Canon has some Wireless file transfer systems available for several of their camera models. They can be set up to use an existing wifi network or can, with limited range, be set up to transfer files directly to a wifi enabled laptop. Some can even allow you to control the camera remotely from the laptop or control several cameras at the same time. The systems are not cheap: $600 to $900 or so.

I would imagine Nikon has a system also.

I tried the Eye-Fi card and could not get it to work.
Went with tethering instead... no internet connection needed.

My brother has one and he uses it direct to laptop with no other wi-fi system around. What good would the eyefi system be if you couldn't use it in the field?

The eyefi is a wi-fi transmitter and the laptop is a wi-fi receiver. They will link up. There's no need to have yet another receiver/transmitter to redundantly do the same thing.
