You can't really stop them from pawning their photo equipment to get money to buy drugs.

That could be. I didn’t see it on UHH though.
I have always said that my addiction is photography and it is no less expensive than a cocaine habit, but it is a bit healthier.

You're banning the wrong "party."
I have tried to get my kids to take up photography to no avail. Now I'm trying to work on the grands. I have an old Canon Rebel, one of my first digital cameras, that I am saving for my granddaughter. She loves taking photos with mine but I am scared to let her loose with it as she is only 2 1/2!
