Thanks

If you don't mind I'd like to send you a PM regarding your cruise. Thanks, Lou

Leave your drone at home and enjoy the trip. Or better yet, instead of posting here why not CALL Pride of America and ask them what is the policy on drones. Sounds like a good idea does it not. Why don't you call TODAY.

Imagine being on the edge at Bryce Canyon if drones were legal there...
there would be 300 of them buzzing around... same with a lot of the national parks.
Would be horrendous.

It amazes me to read here in a photography forum about " leave your toys at home". Do you leave your camera at home? Contrary to what most people think, drones are not used to spy on people. There are always those that abuse the rules, but really tired of hearing that spy thing. I have watched many with a camera and telephoto lens take photos of questionable content.
Take a photo at eye level, then take the same scene at 25, 50, or 100 feet, and each is a totally different.
I and the drone pilots I know take photos and videos at altitude, just like you do at eye level.
I take my professional "toy" with me all the time.
Try it, you might like it!

Thanks for all the response...some were very good and some were completely "off base."...
I have NO intentions of using the drone on board...it was for when we were traveling around the Islands ...." where allowed."....

As a certificated drone pilot and photographer I agree with most of what you say. However, due to the actions of a few bad drone operators, the perceptions of drones and their pilots have been damaged beyond repair.

As we know today, the public's PERCEPTIONS of the truth and reality are usually much more powerful than the real situation. So I expect more and more restrictions of drones along with more animosity from the general public who feel threatened by the mere presence of drones. For example, I have friends doing real estate photography who have been threatened by neighbors while taking photographs of the house being sold. The neighbors called police who then questioned his motives and told him to stop or face receiving a ticket for disturbing the peace.

I absolutely hate the sound of a drone - sure, the footage is pretty cool, but it sounds like a mosquito on steroids.

Sure, you don't notice it when you're flying the drone: since you're all wrapped up in the enjoyment of piloting your rather amazing piece of technology and capturing some images from a unique perspective, but for everyone else, it's an annoyance.

Perhaps my visceral response is at the extreme end, but when I'm chilling on a beach or enjoying a sunset in an exotic location with my wife, and someone fires up a drone, a feeling of anger starts creeping up my spine. I stifle the compulsion to throw rocks at it or berate its pilot; and console myself with the knowledge that in about 8-10 minutes the battery will run out and the nuisance will abate.

The way I experience it, one person's selfish motive to fly a drone affects everyone in the area, disturbing an otherwise tranquil moment with the irritating buzz of their airborne gadget. Not to mention that if it's in a place where other photographers are shooting, we now have to go back and PS your drone out of our images.

There are perhaps some safety issues involved as well, but drone pilots should consider that when others have paid to go on a relaxing vacation, your sound of your drone is a disruptive annoyance to many.

Drones are cool, no doubt, but before you launch one, consider the affect you're having on other people.

I am thinking that replacing the old-fashioned skeet-shoot with a modern-day "drone-shoot" could be fun, challenging, and enjoyed by almost everyone!

Also imagine the disappointment of drone fliers expecting their high-tech drone to utilize the ability to return and land at the exact spot where it took off.... which is now two miles to the stern of the ship....

I can't say I don't fantasize about this.

I took a Princess cruise and they won't even let you get on the ship with a drone. Another case of people abusing a privilege and ruining for everyone.

In California, while fighting wildfires, pilots flying planes loaded with fire retardants, had to return to takeoff, because so many drones were flying in their path, recording video of the fires.

I think every opinion possible was shared here. As always, a great deal of knowledge and WISDOM is available.

You still have to start it up on the ship and once again invade everyone's peace and quiet when you land it on the ship. They're freaking annoying, get over it.

Hawaii, in particular Maui, has too many GREAT photo opportunities not to take a camera. When we took the Hawaii cruise (5 ports) we rented a car for Maui and drove to top of Haleakala Crater. It offers tremendous photo opportunities as you are above the cloud line and rain forest below.

The Big Beach and Little Beach (clothing optional) are also neat to visit. (Big Beach below)

While on our last trip in 2016 (been there 3 times), we drove to the crater and saw an older couple parked on the side of the road in a new red Corvette (rented). They were from Texas. I offered to take a photo of them and send it. They were ecstatic to have me capture the moment. I sent it printed and on DVD. Next thing I know, we received a huge box of goodies from them. Totally unexpected. Made new friends.

Good views, good photo opportunities, good friends.
Mahalo.
