Floral from the local store

The other day I received two umbrella lights (24 X 24) with daylight florescent bulbs in an effort to improve my lighting technique. This is the results of my efforts with flowers from the local grocery store. The flowers are lit with an umbrella on either side, about 18 inches away, with a top light that is nothing more than a swing arm lamp with a daylight florescent. I added a touch of soft focus to all the greenery, dodged the stems to help them stand out, and a gradient to the fake Ivy. (It covered the foam block.) Comments are always welcome. Good, bad, or otherwise. Ken (No signature this time.)

Ok, I can already see a problem with the purple flower focus and depth of field on the white flowers. ~~sigh~~ Ken

Are you shooting at 1/250 and ISO 400 because you are shooting handheld? With a tripod you could shoot at lower ISOs and higher apertures than f7.1 by using lower shutter speeds than you can handhold.

No, it's on a tripod. I simply wasn't paying attention.

For the FZ1000, the smallest aperture is F8. Due to the 1 inch sensor and the crop factor of 2.7, 8 X 2.7 yeilds an equivalent aperture of 22. If it could have a smaller aperture, diffraction becomes an noticable problem. This information is taken from a forum at DP Review, a website that I've always respected for non-bias information. Anyway, I just thought I'd throw this out there. Thank you for taking the time to look over the pic. Ken

The composition on this is quite nice. Once you get everything in focus and the white flowers pop you will have a spectacular picture. Keep it up, you did good.
