Greetings,

Each month my camera club has an intra club competition. The category is "Landscapes". I have attached two images I would like to submit. I welcome your comments and suggestions. Your input would be very helpful. Are these images worthwhile?

Thank you

Bela, Submit the second image with a crop out above the lower split rail. That puts the focus on the water. You can title it "Flowing"

Your leading lines are great in the top pic , crop a little off the bottom to make lines more from bottom corner , picture leads you through the image love it!1 Take care!

Neither catches my fancy. Too much stuff in each.

I know sometimes with landscapes it is the whole scene that catches your attention. Alas, photos don’t capture that same feeling.

Try some different perspectives for your compositions. Consider putting a main subject at the thirds intersection.

For the first you might consider going down the step and holding the camera low. For the second moving right and getting just the whole waterfall. In that case put the top of the falls at a thirds line.

the second image has a much stronger subject (the water fall). However the bright sky steals the viewers eye and I agree that cropping it out will further emphasis the strong subject. If you are allowed to post process the water in the water falls could be brightened ever so slightly to add even further emphasis.

IMHO the leading lines in the first image lead your eye to dead trees. If you want to also submit the first image, crop out the dead trees in the background

Not thrilled with either, but of the two I like the fence/path leading lines in your first photo. I just wish they were leading somewhere more interesting.

#1 is more complex and visually appealing. Straighten the horizon before submitting.

I would like to see the first one in B&W with a little
bit more contrast.
If there is no rule about photographs being in color,
that would be my choice.

For me there is just too much in each frame, and it's unclear what drew you to take the shots. If you are able, try lower angles and also look for less cluttered areas. Think about what is unique to the scene, what caught your eye.

In the below link, there are some "intimate" landscapes that might help you see smaller stories:
https://www.outdoorphotographer.com/tips-techniques/nature-landscapes/grand-landscapes-intimate-details/

You could also think less literally, such as in terms of shadows, textures and lines. Sunrise, sunset, after a snowstorm...all can add mood and interest.

The foreground rocks (stair?) of the top image take away from that image. The sticks in front of the water fall take away from the bottom image.
