Porcelain Doll Beauty Genre session on Winter Solstice...

Full team...
Model: Alex (unsigned) a professional colorist
Makeup: Samantha (runway model & currently a makeup artist in training)
Hair Styling: Devon (Cosmetologist; formerly with VOGUE NYC)
Creative Direction & Photography: I'm guilty here...

Albeit all credit goes to the stellar team... I'm just a minor player in this mix...

Kit:
Camera: Nikon D3x (circa 2008)
Lens: AF-S 200-400mm f/4G IF ED VR Nikkor (circa 2003)

Illumination: Paramount a.k.a. butterfly (nose shadow)
BD with sock & grid
Strip box kickers (behind either side at 45 degrees)
Overhead hair light
Foam Core reflector (30x40 inch) horizontal just out of frame at Alex's chest height.

Breaking the rules: Instead of shadows for depth and bias relief I've haloed Alex by increasing power on the kickers a couple of stops over key... i.e. rim lighting verses shadows

FYI: Got to love shooting beauty in the winter.... No tan lines!
thanks!

Richard, thank you for your very thoughtful comment... deeply appreciate...

btw, totally love your flickr web site... brought a tear to me eyes seeing those magnificent vintage sports cars... back in the day I drove an MGA, (TR3's rival) and later a Triumph Spitfire... those were very happy days indeed touring with top down... kudos on your lovely vintage auto sports imagery!

Thank you so much for your continued support Bill... it is deeply appreciated!
Again this session was totally a team effort... the synergy of all players made this happen.

Bill I am amazed with your superb Land and Sea "Scapes" whose image quality is certainly at "Publication" standards... The dynamic range latent within is far beyond what one would expect from even the most advanced piece of kit... so I must assume you have master HDR to achieve such brilliant renderings... They are certainly at the level any commercial architectural photographer would cherish for their "exteriors".

You are way too kind raymondh... greatly appreciate the glowing praise... and your continued support of my efforts... guess after many years and countless photo sessions I may be close to figuring out how optimize output of that vintage D3x... love that camera so much... However it really is the entire team that took this narrative where we all wanted it go... and I tried my very best to provide each team member imagery for their portfolios... everyone worked so incredibly hard on this shoot.

Thank you so much Val... your kind words are indeed much appreciated!
As for the Hair Styling: Devon was like a mother hen hiding just out of frame and darting in constantly between shots to "fix" Alex's styled tresses... After so many years at VOGUE NYC so knows exactly how to handle hair... love Devon, we've been collaborating for over a decade now and she is my "go-to" if possible... Only issue is she's a bridal hair stylist and thus booked solid on weekends from April through October... and many Fridays as well... Got lucky shooting in the middle of winter... it's the slowest season for bridal hair styling.... and best of all, no tan lines! lol
